Guide to Choosing Hardwood Lumber

By Jerry Blackburn

Hardwood lumber is absolutely vital in order for any woodworking shop to survive. Whenever you are making a product out of wood you not only need tools but you need the wood itself! Wood is extremely beautiful and it is also strong and will last for a very long time if treated correctly. The material which you use for your project will depend on the type of product that you are creating.

Different Types of Hardwood Lumber

Walnut is one very popular type of lumber, it is a very rich and dark wood which looks very beautiful. It's a unique wood and is very distinctive. It's surprising that the color of the wood will change depending on the country which it was grown in. Walnut is well suited to furniture making, in particular in grandfather clocks.

Oak is a beautiful and popular hardwood which is used in a number of places around the house. It can be used as flooring as well as making furniture. Oak is a very nice wood which is durable and works well in a number of situations. It is commonly seen in kitchen cabinets and new show homes.

Another popular tree is the yellow poplar, this tree grows in the East United states and is one of the tallest hardwood trees. It is much cheaper than oak and walnut however it is still very high quality. It is commonly used for toys, sporting goods, musical instruments and of course furniture. Poplar is a very easy wood to work with.

Beech can be grown in a number of different countries, it is commonly used for flooring products, furniture, baskets and boxes among other products. Beech is very easy to stain or paint as they take the color very well.

Hardwood plywood is able to give the look of expensive hard wood without having to spend a fortune. This uses a thin slice of hardwood which is glued onto cheaper board. This type of wood is commonly used in bookcases. Oak plywood for example gives the look of oak without the expense.

Where should I buy Lumber?

Lumber isn't hard to buy, you can find it in any normal home improvement store. You could also take a trip to a specialist lumber store such as lumber liquidators or Carter Lumber. You may be unable to purchase specialist types of wood in some home improvement stores. You may have to order wood like walnut or oak from these places as it is fairly expensive.

You can also buy types of lumber from the internet. Many people don't like the idea of buying wood online because of the postage. It can also be difficult to assess the quality of the wood that you are buying, however you don't need to worry that much. In most cases the wood will be graded.

Finding A Debt Consolidation Loan Online

By William Blake

Debt is a stressful thing for many people - some can get things under control themselves while others need assistance. For many people, one of the most effective ways of getting their debt under control is to use a debt consolidation loan.

Fortunately, over the last several years, finding one of these loans has become much easier thanks to the internet.

All the tools you need to find a loan are available to you on the internet. There are lots of websites where you can research loans, and even more general information about getting debt under control. You can compare loans from various sources to find the best interest rate and most effective terms.

Once you find the best deal, you can usually apply for a loan directly on their website. You'll need to have all the necessary personal information handy - basically the same as you would need if applying at your bank or somewhere else in person.

You'll need all your debt accounts - credit cards, department store accounts, etc. - and the current balance on each. You'll also need your employment details and possibly information about the security you can use for the loan, such as your home or vehicles. In most cases, you will have a response very quickly.

Once you've been approved for a debt consolidation loan, the load provider will pay off each of your debt on your behalf. This leaves you with a single payment and a single loan to deal with, instead of many different ones.

This single loan normally has a much lower interest rate than all the other ones (especially credit cards) and it is easier to manage a single payment every month.

Before you make your decision on which loan company you want to use, call their customer service department and ask a few questions. Make sure their customer service is easy to reach and knowledgeable about their services. You don't want to find out they aren't very helpful after you've already signed up with them.

How to Get the Best Mortgage Rate When Refinancing

By Louie Latour

If you are in the process of refinancing your home mortgage loan, finding the best lender and the lowest refinancing mortgage rate can be an intimidating process. Did you know that the rate quotes you receive when shopping for a new loan all include commission based markup? Homeowners who learn to recognize this unnecessary markup of their mortgage rate can save thousands of dollars on their mortgage every year. Here are several tips to help you get the best refinancing mortgage rate for your next home loan.

What Is Commission Based Markup?

When you refinance your home loan you'll pay an origination fee to the person arranging your loan. In addition to this fee the lender pays a commission to the broker for locking in and closing with a higher than market mortgage rate. This fee the lender pays is called Yield Spread Premium. When you learn how to avoid this markup of your mortgage rate you'll be able to take advantage of wholesale rates and save thousands of dollars each and every year you have a mortgage loan.

The Basics of Yield Spread Premium

Here's one scenario to illustrate Yield Spread Premium at work. Suppose you're refinancing your home for $250,000. Your mortgage broker quotes you a rate of 6.75 percent and charges you a one percent fee. In this example the fee your broker charges is $2,500 which is a reasonable amount to pay. The problem with this loan is what your broker isn't telling you. The mortgage rate your lender approved you is 6.0 percent and the broker has marked it up to 6.75 percent to get a 3 percent commission from the lender. This kickback from the lender is $7,500 on top of the $2,500 you're already paying.

How Yield Spread Premium Affects Your Mortgage Payment

You might wonder if arguing over .75% of your mortgage rate is worth the trouble. In the example above you qualified for a six percent mortgage rate; however the broker marked it up to 6.75%. On a conventional 30 year mortgage your monthly payment at 6.0% would be $1,498. If you agree to the higher mortgage rate that includes commission based markup your payment would go up to $1,621 per month. This is $1,476 per year that you'll pay extra; almost an entire mortgage payment extra because your broker took advantage of you.

Yield Spread Premium Can Be Avoided

If you learn how to recognize this unnecessary markup of your mortgage interest rate you'll save thousands of dollars every year on every mortgage you have. You can refinance your home loan paying the broker a one percent fee with a wholesale mortgage rate. You can learn more about refinancing with a wholesale rate without paying lender junk fees.

Solar Power Lighting - Using Green to Light Green

By Kent Higgins

Gardening is both a peaceful endeavor and one that fulfills our natural instinct to make use of and cultivate the land around us. With many gardening shows and gardening specialty channels now available on T.V, and numerous places to gather information related to gardening online, gardeners are now more informed and knowledgeable about their craft than ever before.

This, combined with an increased awareness of the environmental hazards facing us, has given rise to an increase in the popularity of solar lighting in gardens. These are both environmentally friendly and great additions to any garden.

Solar lighting is not only cheaper and better for the environment; it also avoids the pitfalls that occur when installing electrical lighting in a garden area. These electrical lines must be installed underground in shallow trenches to avoid the danger of being exposed wear and tear and the elements. Solar lighting requires nothing more than a battery and some natural sunlight to perform their magic.

There are many varieties of garden lighting sometimes called landscape Malibu lighting. Dome lights, pole lighting, globes, stepping stones and lanterns are all viable choices. Dome lights are kept low to the ground, and often have spikes attached to them which can be easily inserted into the ground, holding the dome light in place above the ground.

Garden lighting is often constructed from molded plastic, stainless steel or copper, and can be fitted with colored bulbs or panels. Solar lighting will most often exude a soft white or amber glow.

For gardens featuring at least a small pond or water source, solar balls can be used to great effect. These balls will float freely on the water, providing a gentle, moving source of illumination.

Another popular garden lighting source is solar floats. These objects are disc shaped and can be used in a number of places where other lighting sources may not be viable, such as on a table, in a pool or hot tub, or in a garden pond or water source. These discs can also come in styles which change color, offering a unique visual accompaniment to your garden.

Solar flowers are one of the latest innovations in garden lighting, and certainly one of the most unique and stunning available. They come in styles resembling typical garden flowers such as lilies, sunflowers and poinsettias. The flowers are placed into the ground attached to a spike, and offer illumination by way of thousands of fibre-optic strands.

To give your garden visitors the red carpet treatment, consider adding solar stepping stones. These stones come in a variety of styles, shapes and colors, and infuse your garden path with a bright glowing ambiance through the use of LED lights.

No matter the style or layout of your garden, there are a number of great lighting choices that can be used to seamlessly match the style of your garden and accentuate it. Going the solar route can save you a lot of many over the long term and is great for the environment. Don't leave your garden wallowing in darkness, illuminate it and share its splendor with all, day or night.

Alternatives To Debt Consolidation

By Chris Channing

It is common practice to engage in debt consolidation, but many consumers don't investigate all of their options before opting for a proper debt consolidation plan. Indeed, debt consolidation can do as much harm as it can benefit a consumer. In that case, there are alternatives that should be investigated before resulting to such means.

Sometimes consumers think that getting out of debt is going to be a tough situation to go through. And these consumers are correct in thinking this, but there are some simple solutions that are never explored. For instance, one can often get a better interest rate or repayment plans simply by asking credit companies over the telephone. While this seems too easy to be true, many representatives have the power to do so over a common telephone call.

To help pay off debts that are still existent, consumers may wish to go for a home equity loan. These types of loans are simple in design- they are loans that are taken out on the equity of one's own home. The only downfall to these types of loans is the fact that they will commonly take a couple decades to repay- and this can be a terrible burden each month for years to come.

Repaying previous debts can also be accomplished via refinancing any property that one has, in which the refinancing sum is greater than what is actually owed. This will give consumers some "fast cash," but the repayment plans can often stretch many decades as well. In fact, repayment plans may take 3-4 decades to repay. It's a tough prospect to swallow for most, and thus, few go this route.

Just like one can refinance their house, one can also refinance a car or vehicle in order to get some extra cash to pay off debts. But in the same case as refinancing a house, it can be a burden to have to pay extra long sums of money over the course of extended periods. A secured loan used to get a car can be borrowed against in this situation- but always make sure that one can have the car breakdown and still have a viable way to get to work or pay off debts.

Bankruptcy is a last alternative, although debt consolidation is almost always a better decision. Bankruptcy will give one's credit report a horrible score for years to come, with little chance to better the score in any shape or form. Thus, bankruptcy should be viewed as a very last option.

In Conclusion

In the end, debt consolidation is never anything to be feared. After all, it allows consumers to repay their debts with ample opportunity and intriguing rates. Finding alternatives is always a good solution, but one should never be scared into opting for debt consolidation. In the case of bankruptcy, debt consolidation is almost always the better choice.

Restaurant Kitchens Start With the Oven

By Peter Mason

Well, you've done it. You've finally taken that step and you're opening your own restaurant. Wonderful! Now it's time to pick out your kitchen equipment. Good chefs know that the right kitchen equipment can make or break a dish -- and make or break your restaurant's success.

The most important kitchen equipment is the oven. Restaurant kitchens typically have one of four types of oven: conveyor, convection, pizza and cook-and-hold ovens. Which type you use depends on a variety of factors.

Pizza ovens are relatively self-explanatory: they bake your pizza. Costing between $5,000 and $12,000, the typical pizza oven is freestanding. There are also countertop deck ovens that cost around $2,000. Which type you use depends on whether pizza is your restaurant's main offering. Or is it just one among many offerings?

Cook-and-Hold ovens, as the name implies, lets you cook the food, then leave it in the oven until a patron orders it. Thus it won't dry out and become unappetizing. Typical cook-and-hold ovens can hold the food for up to 24 hours. Some can beprogrammed to automatically change to a holding pattern when its sensors indicate cooking is tone. These sensors either judge by cooking time elapsed or food temperature.

Convection ovens are familiar to some of us as they are sometimes used in homes. These ovens have fans inside to circulate the air, allowing food to cook mroe quickly and more uniformly. Single-deck convection ovens typically cost between $3,000 and $5,000. Double-deck models are also available and are extra useful in restaurants. They can cost up to $10,000. (There are also half-sized convection ovens that cost about $2,000.) Half-sized ovens may save you money, but they will cost you more when it comes to kitchen cabinet parts.

Some fast-food restaurants use conveyor ovens to prepare a lot of food quickly. Pizza and/or sandwiches (or just their meat and bread components) are placed on a conveyor belt. The belt continuously carries the food into oven, synchronized in size, speed and temperature, so the food is fully cooked by the time it reaches the other end of the conveyor belt. There are various models. If you choose a conveyor model, be sure to check how to clean the components. Some models can be tricky.

Often a chef or restaurant owner will be choose the type of oven by what he or she is most used to using. However, it is important to consider the other types as well.

To find out more about restaurant ovens, be sure to go online to research all the different types. Also be sure to check restaurant supply companies and trade associations. They are all interested in making sure you succeed and so will be able to provide a lot of useful information.

Picking the right oven is one of the most important decisions you will make in opening your restaurant. The right choice will pay for itself in no time, with better food and happy customers.

By Caroline Hartford

If you're looking for an elegant and cost-effective way to add visual interest to your home's flooring, look no further than area rugs . Area rugs are high-quality carpets that can cover an entire room or part of a room, but unlike traditional carpeting, they are removable for easy decor reconfiguration or cleaning.

Area rugs can change the ambiance of a room instantly. A quality, well-made floor covering will make a striking focal point for any room. And don't forget their functionality. An area rug can hide flaws such as stains and protect the flooring beneath from excessive wear.

These carpets come in a variety of fun colors and offer a more relaxed, contemporary look than oriental carpets; they also add soft padding to your home. Although they are best known as a part of the 1970s aesthetic, Shag rugs are becoming increasingly popular today.

Popular contemporary rugs often come in patterns of geometric style with block colors that are perfect for the setting of a child's bedroom.

Vegetable Gardening

By Charles and Kim Petty

Vegetable gardening has lately become just as popular as going to the grocery store fore produce. Vegetable gardening can produce vegetable that are usually cheaper than store bought, and vegetables from a home vegetable garden definitely taste better by far. Vegetable gardening is no different than growing herbs or flowers and if the proper steps are taken and the plants are give the proper care they will flourish and produce very tasty vegetables.

First you must decide what size of garden you wish to plant and then select a place for it; somewhere that has good drainage, good air flow, and good, deep soil. It also needs to be able to get as much sunlight as possible. Because vegetable gardens have such tasty rewards, many animals, such as dogs, rabbits, deer, and many others will try and get to your veggies. One way to prevent this is to surround your garden with a fence, or put out a trap to catch mice, moles, and other animals.

Before planting, the soil must be properly prepared. Good soil for vegetable gardening is achieved by cultivation and the application of organic materials. The soil must be tilled (plowed) to control weeds and mix mulch into the soil. If you have a small garden, spading could be a better bet than plowing. Mulching is also a vital part of soil preparation. Organic matter added to the soil releases nitrogen, minerals, and other nutrients plants need to thrive. The most popular and best type of mulch you can use is compost. While the kind and amount of fertilizer used depends on the soil and types of plants, there are some plants that have specific needs; leafy plants, like cabbage, spinach, and lettuce usually grow better with more nitrogen, while root crops like potatoes, beets, turnips, and carrots require more potash. Tomatoes and beans use less fertilizer, while plants like onions, celery, and potatoes need a larger amount.

One thing that is vitally important in vegetable gardening is the garden arrangement. There is no single plan that will work for every garden due to varying conditions. One popular way to arrange a vegetable garden is to plant vegetables needing only limited space together, such as radishes, lettuce, beets, and spinach, and those that require more room together, such as corn, pumpkins, and potatoes. Try and plant tall growing plants towards the back of the garden and shorter ones in the front so that their sunlight does not get blocked.

When you are finally ready to begin planting your vegetable garden, make sure and plant at the right time of year. If you are dying to get an early start, you may want begin your garden inside in a hotbed and then transplant when the weather permits. After you are finished planting, make sure your vegetables receive the appropriate amount of water, which depends on the type of plant. Most plants will need the equivalent to about an inch of water per week.

Weeds must be controlled in vegetable gardening because they will take up water, light, and nutrients meant for the vegetables and they often bring disease and insects to the garden. You can get rid of weeds by cultivation or mulching. To protect against disease and insects you can buy seeds that are disease resistant or use controlled chemicals.

Vegetable gardening is many people's favorite form of gardening because you can actually taste the fruits of your labor. Vegetable gardening is not that expensive to start and the taste of home grown veggies definitely beat out that of supermarket vegetables. Your vegetable gardening days will be full of produce if you take the proper precautions when planting and continue maintenance of your garden.

The Table Saw is a Fundamentle of The Woodworker's Place

By Rob Carlton

Creating things out of wood is an ancient and most satisfying way to use your time. There will be a cash outlay for woodworking tools like any other hobby, if one desires to grow to be a woodworker. Individuals have been crafting objects from wood for hundreds of years, yet until lately, they have not been able to come across powerful enough utensils that finish jobs they started like an expert.

If you're fresh to woodworking, you might be considering constructing your personal place for your hobby. Here are a few of the power woodworking tools that you will require. Of course, you will require, a power hammer, power drills, and more.

Table Saw The table saw is a fundamentle of the woodworker's place. If you do not have one and have not had the pleasure of using one, you are not familiar with the type of firmness and precision the table saw offers. I recall the frustration of creating a birdhouse while I was a campfire boy. All I had to work with was a hand saw. I named it a "cartoon saw." It took me weeks to construct that birdhouse and it did look crappy. My 'saw cuts' were no where near the mark, and the ends of the wood joins did not come out straight. A table saw assists you in making straight cuts because you cut on a flat plane. A fine table saw costs between $250-$900 or more depending on whether you want to use laser sighting for accuracy or not.

Belt Sander Using my birdhouse as an example again, my dad showed me his package of loose sand paper in the garage. I put in the effort. Numerous hours and 'gallons' of elbow grease later, I'd sanded the edges from my birdhouse. However, its aspect still was pretty awful. A belt sander affords a lot of that elbow grease for you and reduces the time needed considerably. It won't provide the fine sanding needed in some of the complex work that you might do. But it can provide the whole item that fast once-over it wants ahead of you applying the concluding touches. Belt sanders cost about $100-$200.

Circular Saw As good as the table saw is, it is not always the best saw to use. There are several ways to do the job, and more than a few ways to cut wood. Circular saws are hand held, and it does require extra practice to grow to be skillful with a circular saw than a table saw. However, let's face it, not each cut can be completed on top of a stand. With practice, the circular saw can be used to cut straight lines. There are many varied dimensions and colors of circular saws in the marketplace, but you can acquire one you don't have to be embarrassed of for around $200.

Vacuum Now wait a minute, I want to be a woodworker not a butler! Not so fast. A day, or even a half a day in your shop will create a mess. You imagine you can presently use your spouse's premium machine? You're most likely going to require your own vacuum for the place. Wood dust buildup is predictable and hazardous. The shop wants to be cleaned after each use. Specialized vacuums can be found wherever good discount woodworking tools are sold.

Now that you are familiar with what apparatus you could do with, you can get on your way to creating that casket for Fluffy.

Do You Need A Low Interest Credit Card for Debt Consolidation

By Adrian Fletcher

It may seem slightly odd for someone trying to consolidate debt to get another line of credit. After all, credit cards make it easy and convenient to spend money. This money doesn't even belong to the person using the card and they can get into more unwanted debt. To a large degree this is true however if used correctly, a low interest credit card for debt consolidation can actually help to solve your financial problems. This article will show you how this can be done.

The credit card industry is highly competitive so banks try to make better offers to potential customers and trump their competitors all the time. New incentives are dreamed up to encourage a certain niche to use their credit card. So air miles might appeal to business people that jet all over the place to hold meetings. Whereas credit or money back on clothing purchases may appeal to avid fashionistas.

A low interest credit card with a balance transfer feature is the kind of incentive for a person with debt problems. The ideas behind this is to transfer any outstanding debts on other credit cards to this card. In many cases the transferred debt will have no interest charged on it for a certain time limit.

Once this is done, the sole focus should be to try and clear this debt before the balance transfer introductory period is over. This means you will save on interest payments and the prospect of saving money will motivate you to clear the debt. A beneficial by-product of doing this is that the payment will be once a month, making it easier to manage, rather than having to pay numerous cards throughout the month.

Of course, the one important assumption that seems to pass many people by is that you will work towards paying off the debt. If you think that no interest for six months gives you a six month vacation from your debts then you are approaching the low interest credit card for debt consolidation from the wrong direction.

So you don't really need a low interest credit card for debt consolidation. You could try getting a bank loan instead. It would probably have a lower repayment rate than the credit card but it is not likely to have a zero interest rate introductory offer.

However, you have to pay off the debt within the six months or you probably won't be better off. This is something you have to work out before you decide to get the card. Commit to paying off the debt and you will be better. If you think it will take 12 months to pay off the debt then it may be better to go for another option with a lower interest rate.

Having said this, another advantage of the low interest credit card is that it is probably easier to get than a bank loan or other form of credit. This is appealing to many people who don't want to jump through rings of fire to get a way to consolidate their debt.

The Shaw Collections are The Best

By JD Theis

Claims to being the best at anything are not to be taken lightly. Where ever consumers are subjected to any one of the many ways that the mass media bombards them, they are constantly told that this or that is "the best." Making these kinds of claims can be especially hard on a company when they make these statements for themselves and certainly when the company involved is working in a competitive market like the one for cheap area rugs. Still, the smartest of these firms make no such claims at all and that's the big reason that the people at Shaw have done so well for themselves-they let their cheap area rugs speak for themselves.

The company has important partnerships with people that further the cause of these fine area rugs, and having the likes of people like Kathy Ireland, Tommy Bahama, and Mary-Kate & Ashley on their side has certainly increased the exposure for the company and their product as well. Although these are some of the best rugs that you'll find anywhere, and even buying one from the Kathy Ireland collection that are made with 100% Olefin guarantees that you'll be enjoying the product for years to come, they are still a few maintenance tips that will increase your enjoyment. For example, the experts suggest that a padding be used at all times and with all cheap area rugs since it lengthens their life span and decreases the amount of wear and tear that these cheap area rugs are put through. It is also a good idea if you turn the rug over once every three months and vacuum toward the edges at the back to get any dirt that has amassed there.

When you get a good look at the Buckingham rug that comes from the Kathy Ireland collection, you'll see why these are the cheap area rugs that you'll want to maintain so that they look good and last for years to come. The Cultivation of Vegetables

By Kim and Charles Petty

Before taking up the garden vegetables individually, I shall outline the general practice of cultivation, which applies to all.

The purposes of cultivation are three to get rid of weeds, and to stimulate growth by (1) letting air into the soil and freeing unavailable plant food, and (2) by conserving moisture.

As to weeds, the gardener of any experience need not be told the importance of keeping his crops clean. He has learned from bitter and costly experience the price of letting them get anything resembling a start. He knows that one or two days' growth, after they are well up, followed perhaps by a day or so of rain, may easily double or treble the work of cleaning a patch of onions or carrots, and that where weeds have attained any size they cannot be taken out of sowed crops without doing a great deal of injury. He also realizes, or should, that every day's growth means just so much available plant food stolen from under the very roots of his legitimate crops.

Instead of letting the weeds get away with any plant food, he should be furnishing more, for clean and frequent cultivation will not only break the soil up mechanically, but let in air, moisture and heat all essential in effecting those chemical changes necessary to convert non- available into available plant food. Long before the science in the case was discovered, the soil cultivators had learned by observation the necessity of keeping the soil nicely loosened about their growing crops. Even the lanky and untutored aborigine saw to it that his squaw not only put a bad fish under the hill of maize but plied her shell hoe over it. Plants need to breathe. Their roots need air. You might as well expect to find the rosy glow of happiness on the wan cheeks of a cotton-mill child slave as to expect to see the luxuriant dark green of healthy plant life in a suffocated garden.

Important as the question of air is, that of water ranks beside it. You may not see at first what the matter of frequent cultivation has to do with water. But let us stop a moment and look into it. Take a strip of blotting paper, dip one end in water, and watch the moisture run up hill, soak up through the blotter. The scientists have labeled that "capillary attraction" the water crawls up little invisible tubes formed by the texture of the blotter. Now take a similar piece, cut it across, hold the two cut edges firmly together, and try it again. The moisture refuses to cross the line: the connection has been severed.

In the same way the water stored in the soil after a rain begins at once to escape again into the atmosphere. That on the surface evaporates first, and that which has soaked in begins to soak in through the soil to the surface. It is leaving your garden, through the millions of soil tubes, just as surely as if you had a two-inch pipe and a gasoline engine, pumping it into the gutter night and day! Save your garden by stopping the waste. It is the easiest thing in the world to do cut the pipe in two. By frequent cultivation of the surface soil not more than one or two inches deep for most small vegetables the soil tubes are kept broken, and a mulch of dust is maintained. Try to get over every part of your garden, especially where it is not shaded, once in every ten days or two weeks. Does that seem like too much work? You can push your wheel hoe through, and thus keep the dust mulch as a constant protection, as fast as you can walk. If you wait for the weeds, you will nearly have to crawl through, doing more or less harm by disturbing your growing plants, losing all the plant food (and they will take the cream) which they have consumed, and actually putting in more hours of infinitely more disagreeable work. If the beginner at gardening has not been convinced by the facts given, there is only one thing left to convince him experience.

Having given so much space to the reason for constant care in this matter, the question of methods naturally follows. Get a wheel hoe. The simplest sorts will not only save you an infinite amount of time and work, but do the work better, very much better than it can be done by hand. You can grow good vegetables, especially if your garden is a very small one, without one of these labor-savers, but I can assure you that you will never regret the small investment necessary to procure it.

With a wheel hoe, the work of preserving the soil mulch becomes very simple. If one has not a wheel hoe, for small areas very rapid work can be done with the scuffle hoe.

The matter of keeping weeds cleaned out of the rows and between the plants in the rows is not so quickly accomplished. Where hand-work is necessary, let it be done at once. Here are a few practical suggestions that will reduce this work to a minimum, (1) Get at this work while the ground is soft; as soon as the soil begins to dry out after a rain is the best time. Under such conditions the weeds will pull out by the roots, without breaking off. (2) Immediately before weeding, go over the rows with a wheel hoe, cutting shallow, but just as close as possible, leaving a narrow, plainly visible strip which must be hand- weeded. The best tool for this purpose is the double wheel hoe with disc attachment, or hoes for large plants. (3) See to it that not only the weeds are pulled but that every inch of soil surface is broken up. It is fully as important that the weeds just sprouting be destroyed, as that the larger ones be pulled up. One stroke of the weeder or the fingers will destroy a hundred weed seedlings in less time than one weed can be pulled out after it gets a good start. (4) Use one of the small hand-weeders until you become skilled with it. Not only may more work be done but the fingers will be saved unnecessary wear.

The skilful use of the wheel hoe can be acquired through practice only. The first thing to learn is that it is necessary to watch the wheels only: the blades, disc or rakes will take care of themselves.

The operation of "hilling" consists in drawing up the soil about the stems of growing plants, usually at the time of second or third hoeing. It used to be the practice to hill everything that could be hilled "up to the eyebrows," but it has gradually been discarded for what is termed "level culture"; and you will readily see the reason, from what has been said about the escape of moisture from the surface of the soil; for of course the two upper sides of the hill, which may be represented by an equilateral triangle with one side horizontal, give more exposed surface than the level surface represented by the base. In wet soils or seasons hilling may be advisable, but very seldom otherwise. It has the additional disadvantage of making it difficult to maintain the soil mulch which is so desirable.

Rotation of crops. ------------------

There is another thing to be considered in making each vegetable do its best, and that is crop rotation, or the following of any vegetable with a different sort at the next planting.

With some vegetables, such as cabbage, this is almost imperative, and practically all are helped by it. Even onions, which are popularly supposed to be the proving exception to the rule, are healthier, and do as well after some other crop, provided the soil is as finely pulverized and rich as a previous crop of onions would leave it.

Here are the fundamental rules of crop rotation:

(1) Crops of the same vegetable, or vegetables of the same family (such as turnips and cabbage) should not follow each other.

(2) Vegetables that feed near the surface, like corn, should follow deep-rooting crops

(3) Vines or leaf crops should follow root crops.

(4) Quick-growing crops should follow those occupying the land all season.

These are the principles which should determine the rotations to be followed in individual cases. The proper way to attend to this matter is when making the planting plan. You will then have time to do it properly, and will need to give it no further thought for a year.

With the above suggestions in mind, and put to use , it will not be difficult to give the crops those special attentions which are needed to make them do their very best.

You Too Can Apply For A Credit Card Debt Consolidation Loan

By David Smythe

If you have many debts and you want to pay them altogether, we have got the answer. You can consolidate all your debts into one plastic card. Acquiring a credit card consolidation loan in order to consolidate your credit and start paying it off may be a great solution.

You can also consider balance transfer, that is transferring money from the account into a different credit card, mainly that card whose APR is low, in order to reduce the stress of high APRs payment.

There are people though who believe that it is not a good solution to use another card in order to transfer balance. They believe that the best solution is to resort to a loan in order to cover your debts. Therefore you can apply for a loan associated with low interest, from any financial institution or bank in order to cover the debts you owe to credit card providers whose interest rate is high. In other words the principle is the same with the one of shifting balance between accounts.

When you apply for a credit card debt consolidation loan you must, however, pay installments back every month following the conditions and the terms you have accepted with the financial institution or the bank. To put it simply, this loan is not secure where the financial institution or the company that has given you the loan does not ask you to guarantee any form of safety.

Still, there is another option for the people having a bad credit history and low rating. For a credit card debt settlement they can resort to the loan to consolidate credit card debt. In this situation, the client will be asked to guarantee safety. This security refers to things like your house or your car, or different things having great value if we compare it with the amount of consolidation loan.

Thus the financial institution or the bank will have the guarantee that they will be paid back the loan they have offered you. Furthermore if the rating of your credit is extremely bad, it will be very difficult for you to benefit from consolidation loans. This is to attract your attention that if your credit card history or rating is good you will not have any problems with further transactions. On the other hand, if your credit history is not a positive one, you will always feel its effects.

Other solutions are good as long as you can haul yourself from the pit of debts you have been buried in, but for some, getting a credit card debt consolidation loan to pay off all your other debts is the best solution.

This is because you have to close all your other existing credit card accounts, a way of forcing yourself to cut your spending habits and think wisely before you spend another cent or dime. However, whatever way you resort to, either by applying for a credit card debt consolidation loan or opting for balance transfers, the choice is up to you. Do what you think fits your lifestyle best.

Best Drinking Water Filters For Your Home

By Trent Barrett

Tap water isn't the purest water; we all know that. If you're tired of the chlorinated taste and want something better, but don't want to pay the price of store bottled water, why not pick up a drinking water filter? You can find many different types on the market today, from very simple systems that do a good basic job to complex systems that deliver bottled-water quality water to your kitchen sink.

The activated carbon drinking water filter, like Pur brand, is the cheapest. A connection that attaches directly to your kitchen sink faucet will cost you around $30, and filter replacements half or less that amount. Activated carbon filters force your tap water through layers of activated carbon; the carbon grabs onto water impurities, retaining them while allowing your purer, better-tasting water to move on through. Cryptosporidium and dangerous bacteria are among the organic contaminants filtered out by these devices, and some inorganic toxins are also removed. Beneficial minerals, like fluoride and calcium, remain in your water, giving it a clean fresh flavor and adding to your health.

If you want to remove other contaminants like chlorine or lead, you need to move up a level, to an reverse osmosis drinking water filter. These filters are very different from the carbon filters; they install under your counter, and your water generally comes from a second faucet that draws from the reservoir of purified water created by the osmotic filter. Ordinary tap water enters the filter at the back, often runs through a carbon filter, and then goes through a series of osmotic filters that allow pure water in, but block everything else. Water that still has contaminants gets rinsed out of the filter system later, and the purified water goes to the reservoir for use. These filters are so powerful they can filter salt out of ocean water, and in fact were first invented to use on submarines to provide a consistent supply of drinking water during long voyages.

Using a reverse osmosis drinking water filter gives you plenty of bottled-water-quality drinking water for about five cents a gallon in most places, a significant cost savings when you consider what you pay for it at your supermarket. Water that is flushed from the system is still pure enough to spray on your garden and lawn, so if you have gray water storage there is no waste.

An ultraviolet drinking water filter is a great choice for anyplace that has a problem with biological contaminants in water. Good UV filters destroy all kinds of bacteria and other living things in your water, providing you with sterile drinking water. These filters are rarely used by themselves; instead, they are an addition at the front or back end of a reverse osmosis drinking water filter, eliminating the single flaw in these filters: that one cryptosporidium in the reservoir tank can contaminate the whole system.

Ceramic filters are a type of drinking water filter that use diatomaceous earth, a natural silicon filter commonly used in commercial water treatment. This filter works similarly to an activated carbon filter, capturing your contaminants before they reach your faucet, and the resulting water is at least as good as that from an activated carbon filter.

Your perfect water filter depends on your tastes and budget. Spend a lot on bottled water? The osmotic is probably for you. Just want to filter out your tap water? A ceramic or carbon drinking water filter will probably be just fine.

Oriental Rugs: From All Over The World

By JD Theis

When you look at the kinds of Oriental rugs that are available today, it's not always apparent that these are the rugs that have a long history that dates back almost as far as the beginning of civilization itself. Still, the modern technologies that are being worked by today's manufacturers make for some stunning imitations, but there is really nothing that can compare to the originals once you get a good idea of their history. While we all might know in a general way that most of these Oriental rugs come from places that are both exotic and mysterious like Iran, there are few of us that know very much about the real history-how far back it actually goes and what went into the predecessors of today's imitations that come from manufacturers like the 828 Collections.

One of the more common places to start with the history of these rugs is Egypt. From the 16th to the 18th century, Egypt was controlled by Turkish overlords. This was to be an extended period of great carpet manufacturing as weaving went on here for a great time until the Ottoman Empire in Egypt fell in 1798 and with it the surplus in weaving. Around this time, there was a great boom in Oriental rugs that were manufactured in India. To this day, India has been able to hold on to this legacy and produce some of the finest rugs of this type that the world sees.

The Indian design as it pertains to oriental rugs is characterized by flowering shrubs and lattice patterns and prayer rug motifs that speak to the Hindu religion that is prevalent in the country. And all this bring us to the modern examples of the Oriental rugs and some of the variations that modern manufacturing has made possible. When you take a look at some of the rugs that come from the best of these modern manufacturers, you'll see that people like those from the 828 Collections have done their best to combine the old world tradition with the latest in design. The Chairman Area Rugs for example are some of the best imitation Oriental rugs that you're ever likely to see and these are from one of the beds of the industry to boot, India. Some of these are the best in their classifications and they boast New Zealand Blended Wool with a testament to the old world design that has made Oriental rugs and all their offspring famous for years.

Easy Real Estate Investing

By Phyllis Wheeler

Real estate investing is far from easy, many people would say.

If you're investing for short-term appreciation, you are in for a bumpy ride in the current business climate. I think most people would agree that short-term appreciation isn't a reasonable goal these days.

If you're looking for long-term appreciation, you can buy a property. You need to purchase it at a reasonable price to allow room to pay for management fees. Or you can manage it yourself. The tenants are the wild card, aren't they?

Commercial real estate is risky too, depending on the local market. So you are thinking about residential real estate. Managing it yourself may mean you are doing a lot of maintenance. And how do you find the right tenant? How do you create a lease? What you want is a stable situation with a tenant who stays a long time and keeps up the property. How do you get there?

You may want to consider a real-estate investment trust (REIT), if you want an investment that is low-maintenance. You buy shares in a REIT fund, which is publicly traded. The fund typically holds commercial property and/or mortgages. The value of these funds may go up when the stock market goes down, allowing you to hedge your bets.

But the fund fees can siphon off your profits. What if you want a simple, low-risk long-term investment ? One where you can file the deed in your safe deposit box?

What do you think of the idea of investing your money in a single-family house, to be rented out? You can choose the house from a variety of local sunbelt markets, and you can take advantage of negotiated relationships with property managers, insurers, and mortgage originators. All this at just five to 10 percent down on each house.

A system like this will give you a predictable set of expenses and income. In fact, your tenants will pay off the mortgage for you. You can start a college fund for your kid this way--you can sell the house in 15 to 20 years, and take out your equity.

On the flip side, new first time buyer programs have evolved that are absolutely fantastic and even offer below market interest rates. Even with all these good things happening, we find that there are many folks out there right now paralyzed by the negativity of the press. We term this analysis paralysis! Folks want to buy or refinance a home, or investment property but are scared. They don't realize how good we have it here, especially in the RTP area which is really a bright light in the USA right now. This is a great market here. People think "I am not sure I want to sell my home right now but I really do want to buy a new home.." They may not really realize they can buy that bigger home and get a really good deal on the next house and the mortgage right now. The home they are buying is more expensive than the home they live in currently, this can be a good leverage advantage. The other thing to consider here in the RTP area is consider keeping your home, renting it and buying another home. We do have a strong rental market here. Don't be too fearful of making a move, if you wait until everyone else makes a move, then the laws of supply and demand kick in and prices go up as demand goes up.

Here is more good news; Mortgage rates really have come down quite a bit. Most folks are not aware of this at all. Mortgage rates are at 12 month lows. It is a GREAT time to refinance, look at mortgage options and get out of adjustable rate loans. Many families are considering equity repositioning and taking cash out of their homes to buy other properties and taking advantage of the real estate market. Many investors are sitting on the sidelines waiting to pounce on every good deal they can get their hands on. There have been some excellent new loan products that have come out in the market, particularly for first time home buyers to help them get into homes. Here are a few: down payment assistance programs, bond programs with below market interest rates, programs that are 100% financing with no mortgage insurance (even if you are not a first time home buyer)! Folks are just not aware of this good stuff because the media is showing more bad things than good things right now. This scares people. Have the courage to step outside of what the press is telling you and examine what our geographic market offers. It could be huge opportunity for you.

What has changed? You want to know the facts:

1. If you have credit issues, it will be more important now to get a formal preapproval with a lender that you meet with. Allow your mortgage planner to help you get a better deal/rate by helping give you tips to increase your credit scores. We do this at no cost for our clients. Look for our credit improvement workshops on line.

2. No doc loans- These are loans where no income or no assets are verified. These have become much tougher to do in the current mortgage market. If you need this type of product, talk to a certified mortgage planner in advance of purchasing.

3. When buying investment property, you need to put down approximately ten percent. There are no PMI options only with 10% down. This is a good thing and makes more of the payment tax deductible.

4. As with all things in our world, business cycles as does everything. This is normal and expected and necessary. We as lenders are not giving zero down loans to folks who do not have enough income or who do not have decent credit any more. It is my opinion that the mortgage market was in a way a microcosm of our economy. The market was/is looking ways to make money and just became too lenient w/ some practices. This is why the mortgage correction happened. This is a natural cycle and happens in every business. For the many of our customers there is a big opportunity to buy now. We are in a great market and many families are finding ways to take advantage of moving up, renting their existing homes and cashing in on these low rates. There is a lot of information on Real Estate Investing as a wealth building tool and you are welcome to check our website for upcoming workshops.

Talk to your real estate agent about your current situation they are great partners and can give you an accurate idea about both your current property situation and your new property scenario. They know the market better than anyone.

Home Design: Window Coverings

By Linden Walhard

Nowadays, you can find window blinds in a wide variety of colors and styles to help you create the perfect home design for your windows and home. You can find them made of different materials as well to enable you to create the home design that you are searching for. The most common materials that window blinds are available in include:

1. Wood. Wood is one of the most popular materials for window blinds. There is no other material quite like wood in its aesthetic feeling and warmth. Wood blinds can be painted or stained many different colors to help you create the perfect look for your window and home. Wood window blinds slats come in different sizes as well to help you get the look and feel that you want for your window. Woven and Venetian blinds can be found made of wood. 2. Metal. Metal window blinds are another very popular choice in window blinds, especially the aluminum ones. They are very easy to take care of and durable, which makes them a great choice for many homeowners. They come in a myriad of sizes and colors to help you get the right look for your room and your window, too. 3. Fabric. Some window blinds are constructed of fabric that is stiffened for added strength. The fabric may be used alone or it may be backed with metal or vinyl. This is a great decorating element when coordinated with other fabrics in the room. They can also be used with magnetic curtain rods. 4. Cane. Woven blinds are made of either bamboo or rattan cane. These slats can be split cane pieces or whole can pieces, depending upon the window blinds. These window blinds can be used to filter and diffuse light in the room, rather than block it entirely. 5. PVC and Vinyl. Woven and Venetian blinds can be found made of vinyl. Vinyl is often used instead of wood or metal in Venetian or woven window blinds, because they are more durable and they are easy to clean. They are also less expensive than many other materials.

The great thing about window blinds is that they can be used in conjunction with other window treatments like curtains or valances, or they can be used alone. If they are used alone, they can make your look more roomy and large and add a contemporary flair. When used with curtains or drapes, they tend to make a room feel more soft, welcoming, and cozy. Curtains or valances help to soften up the straight lines of the window blinds, giving the windows a softer appearance.

Window blinds can be included in almost any room of the home as the sole window treatment or in conjunction with curtains or drapes. A eat in kitchen will look very bright and welcoming with woven window blinds that allow just a little of the light in, while a traditional living room will look even more cozy and welcoming with Venetian blinds frames with light curtains and/or a valance. Bedrooms are a great room to use the light blocking vinyl miniblinds to enable you to get the rest that you want and need after a long day of work.

Window blinds can give your windows great style and beauty, as well as function. Adding them to your home design plan can give you a functional window treatment and a beautiful addition to your room. What could be better?

Get Gardening Like a Pro With Window Gardens

By Thomas Fryd

As the pace of society continues to quicken and our lives become ever more hectic, the process of cultivating, weeding and sowing those often finicky plants can seem a daunting proposition, and one doomed to failure. The good news this isn't the case, and even the busiest person can have a garden they'll be proud of with just a little effort.

If you've been kept up late at night pondering how to make your garden dreams a reality, a window garden is the answer. Window boxes can be setup and installed in just a few short hours, and easily maintained in minutes a day.

Window garden boxes come in a variety of styles, and can be fashioned out of a broad array of materials. For the country style homes, boxes of natural wood work very well, seamlessly blending in with the surrounding decor and earthy feel. More modern homes may do well to go with something flashier, such as a wrought iron or resin box. Molded plastic boxes can also work well in either setting, come in a variety of colors, and are ideal for gardeners on a budget.

When the choice of window box has been reached, the next step will be to install the brackets. This is simpler than it may sound. Detailed instructions will be included with your window box, and the whole process should take no more than fifteen minutes.

With brackets in place, it's time to get to the fun stuff, preparing your window box for planting. You surely know of the many possibilities that exist, so take your time and consider all angles before making your decision. Vegetable plants are a great choice for consumers wishing to save on their grocery bills, and enjoy fresh produce right off the vine. Flowering plants are always a popular choice, and can add a stately, colorful and welcoming look to any room. For the budding or entrenched chef, planting herbs will take your culinary arts to the next level.

You really can't go wrong with vegetable plants, and choosing the ones ideal for you and your family will surely revolve around your palate and theirs. Tomato plants offer the most versatility, as tomatoes can be used in a number of recipes and home-grown creations. Note that a trellis should be used to tie up and support these plants, as the hefty tomatoes will likely cause instability, bowing and breaking of the vines. Other vegetable plant options include cabbage, lettuce, spinach, carrot, onion and peas plants.

If you've decided to fill your window garden with color, there are many beautiful options available. Geraniums, petunias, marigolds, carnations, dahlias and pansies all offer varied colours and styles to suit any taste. You may also wish to add foliage plants to your flower box ones that may not fit in a project for patio landscaping. The leaves of these plants will offer a nice contrast to the colour and shape of your flowering plants. Good foliage plant choices include hostas, potato vines and Dusty Miller.

Herbs can run the gamut from those used for a fresh splash of cooking flavour to those that add a nice aroma to a room. Popular herb choices for seasoning include oregano, basil, parsley, thyme, rosemary and sage. Aromatic choices include lemon grass, rosemary and lavender.

Once the myriad of choices has been waded through and a decision reached on the plant(s) you will add to your window box, you can get down to planting them. Fill your window box with a good combination of potting mix and water retaining crystals. The crystals ensure your plant will not dry out to quickly, allowing for less regular upkeep. Fill the window box up to the top with potting soil, save for a few inches. Gently place your plants in your window box, tamping down the soil surrounding the plants, and give them a nice welcoming drink of water.

You can now go ahead and place your window garden into its bracket, and voila, you now have a wonderful, easily maintained garden.

Denver Real Estate - Get it while it's hot!

By Jim Lux

Have you considered a move to the Denver Colorado region? Real estate in Denver has suffered as it has in the rest of the nation. But depending on where you are in your current finances, this struggling market can greatly benefit you in your real estate hunt. Many families are finding themselves in a difficult position, unable to purchase a home or even secure financing, but others are getting great prices on amazing properties in the Denver real estate market.

Many people have asked why this housing crisis has hit the country so hard in the past 12 months. There are many factors contributing to this crisis. There are thousands of homeowners in Denver who have had their homes foreclosed because of unfortunate events occurring in their lives and bad decisions they might have made with their loans.

Some people were banking on their home's value continuing to climb as it had in past. They took out additional mortgages on this future rise in value. But when home values began declining, they found themselves in difficult situations. Many home owners became "upside down" in their mortgages, owing more than their home was worth.

Some families saw their homes foreclosed after getting an adjustable interest rate mortgage without understanding just how high their payments would become after the rate adjusted higher. When the interest rates on their homes increased, their payments did as well, often times to levels they just couldn't afford. Several missed payments later, and another home was foreclosed.

Today, many investors have begun taking advantage of the declining prices of homes due to these foreclosures. And, instead of renting out these homes, many investors are leaving the homes empty while they wait for the market to recover. Once this recovery occurs and home prices begin to climb again, these investors will be in a good position to make a solid profit.

People who have not been affected by the housing crisis in Denver can benefit greatly by the low prices of homes in the Denver area. There are hundreds of homes to choose from at rates at almost 40% lower than the cost two years ago.

Many homes are still available in popular areas like Littleton, Wheatridge, and Aurora where the prices have remained relatively stable. Morrison, Conifer, and Evergreen as well as other areas around Denver still are growing at a fine pace with prices beginning to climb again.

Many people in the Denver area are suffering through the housing crisis. Many others are actually experiencing great benefit from this turbulent housing market. The rentals are in such high demand that it is now a landlord's market with rents greatly increased from where they were a year ago. Perhaps now is the perfect time to work with a realtor to find that ideal investment property in Denver in order to take advantage of this downswing in the market.

If you're not already thinking about investing, you might be too late!

Fertilize Your Garden All A Part of Proper Plant Care

By Thomas Fryd

One of the great things about outdoor plants is they require very little attention. They gather all of the nutrients they need from the surrounding air and soil, and in an environment that is anything but arid, require very little to no feeding. This is in contrast to indoor plants, which require a thoughtful and constant eye from the gardener. If you're not careful though, even outdoor plants can suffer if not properly setup and looked after.

Fertilizers come with varying concentrations of three key elements, Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium, and the degree to which each element exists in a particular fertilizer is displayed on the packaging, abbreviated as three numbers separated by dashes. 10-10-10, an equal mixture of all three elements is common, but many other mixtures can be found to suit individual plants or patches of garden.

Each plant species will require different amounts of these elements to thrive, and just as they can wilt under too little of these elements, so too can they suffer if given an overdose of the wrong element. The season will also affect the needs of many plants, with flowering plants requiring more sustenance in spring while they grow, and less in the fall.

Plants also absorb this fertilizer at differing rates. Fertilizer with slow-release nitrogen beads is often ideal, as they deliver material below the surface at a steady rate.

Phosphorus is essential for flowering plants, and is tied in with the pH level, or acidity of the soil. This pH scale functions on a scale from 0-14, with 7, the pH level of water being neutral. The lower on the scale, the more acidic the compound is, the higher on the scale the more basic.

If soil is either too basic or too acidic, it can affect an indoor houseplant's absorption and release of phosphorus, inhibiting plant growth, especially the growth of roots.

The finally element, potassium helps fight diseases and also promotes the development of fruit bearing plants. It aids fruit growth and development by transporting elements throughout the tissues of the plant.

Another convenient fertilizer option is to go with an all purpose liquid, which works with a number of different plants, effectively delivering an even level of fertilizer. For some plants with higher absorption rates though, this method may result in delivering elements to the plant too quickly, potentially poisoning the plant.

Whichever method and degree of fertilizer you choose, always be sure to apply the fertilizer to dry soil. Applying the fertilizer to wet soil can lead to an increased concentration of elements and damage the plant.

New plants will not need fertilizer after purchase in most cases, save for flowering plants in spring. All others should be fine to begin with if they were properly maintained at the gardening center before purchase.

Through careful soil and element manipulation, you can ensure your plants will survive and thrive under almost any condition, and with a minimal level of further upkeep required. Be sure to read the labels on your plants, or consult someone with a knowledge of the plant to ascertain its ideal fertilizer choice.

What makes an Ideal Kitchen

By Kim and Charles Petty

It is a mistake to suppose that any room, however small and unpleasantly situated, is "good enough" for a kitchen. This is the room where housekeepers pass a great portion of their time, and it should be one of the brightest and most convenient rooms in the house; for upon the results of no other department depend so greatly the health and comfort of the family as upon those involved in this 'household workshop'.

Every kitchen should have windows on two sides of the room, and the sun should have free entrance through them; the windows should open from the top to allow a complete change of air, for light and fresh air are among the chief essentials to success in all departments of the household. Good drainage should also be provided, and the ventilation of the kitchen ought to be even more carefully attended to than that of a sleeping room. The ventilation of the kitchen should be so ample as to thoroughly remove all gases and odors, which, together with steam from boiling and other cooking processes, generally invade and render to some degree unhealthful every other portion of the house.

There should be ample space for tables, chairs, range, sink, and cupboards, yet the room should not be so large as to necessitate too many steps. Undoubtedly much of the distaste for, and neglect of, "housework," so often deplored, arises from unpleasant surroundings. If the kitchen be light, airy, and tidy, and the utensils bright and clean, the work of compounding those articles of food which grace the table and satisfy the appetite will be a pleasant task.

It is desirable, from a sanitary standpoint, that the kitchen floor be made impervious to moisture; hence, concrete or tile floors are better than wooden floors. Cleanliness is the great desideratum, and this can be best attained by having all woodwork in and about the kitchen coated with polish; substances which cause stain and grease spots, do not penetrate the wood when polished, and can be easily removed with a damp cloth.

The elements of beauty should not be lacking in the kitchen. Pictures and fancy articles are inappropriate; but a few pots of easily cultivated flowers on the window ledge or arranged upon brackets about the window in winter, and a window box arranged as a jardiniere, with vines and blooming plants in summer, will greatly brighten the room, and thus serve to lighten the task of those whose daily labor confines them to the precincts of the kitchen.

The kitchen furniture. ----------------------

The furniture for a kitchen should not be cumbersome, and should be so made and dressed as to be easily cleaned. There should be plenty of cupboards, and each for the sake of order, should be devoted to a special purpose. Cupboards with sliding doors are much superior to closets. They should be placed upon casters so as to be easily moved, as they, are thus not only more convenient, but admit of more thorough cleanliness.

Cupboards used for the storage of food should be well ventilated; otherwise, they furnish choice conditions for the development of mold and germs. Movable cupboards may be ventilated by means of openings in the top, and doors covered with very fine wire gauze which will admit the air but keep out flies and dust.

For ordinary kitchen uses, small tables of suitable height on easy-rolling casters, and with zinc tops, are the most convenient and most easily kept clean. It is quite as well that they be made without drawers, which are too apt to become receptacles for a heterogeneous mass of rubbish. If desirable to have some handy place for keeping articles which are frequently required for use, an arrangement similar to that represented in the accompanying cut may be made at very small expense. It may be also an advantage to arrange small shelves about and above the range, on which may be kept various articles necessary for cooking purposes.

One of the most indispensable articles of furnishing for a well-appointed kitchen, is a sink; however, a sink must be properly constructed and well cared for, or it is likely to become a source of great danger to the health of the inmates of the household. The sink should if possible stand out from the wall, so as to allow free access to all sides of it for the sake of cleanliness. The pipes and fixtures should be selected and placed by a competent plumber.

Great pains should be taken to keep the pipes clean and well disinfected. Refuse of all kinds should be kept out. Thoughtless housekeepers and careless domestics often allow greasy water and bits of table waste to find their way into the pipes. Drain pipes usually have a bend, or trap, through which water containing no sediment flows freely; but the melted grease which often passes into the pipes mixed with hot water, becomes cooled and solid as it descends, adhering to the pipes, and gradually accumulating until the drain is blocked, or the water passes through very slowly. A grease-lined pipe is a hotbed for disease germs.

I Really Want Hardwood Flooring - The Basics of Hardwood Flooring

By Michael Olnick

Hardwood flooring has been a very popular, and sturdy, flooring choice for decades. It raises the re-sale value of a home, is made from recycled materials, and it brings a warm feeling to the room that it is in.

It is important to know how to choose the right hardwood flooring for your home and how to take care of it once it is laid.

Its complete opposite is engineered or laminate flooring, which is several layers of wood pressed together, with the grain facing different directions, to make one piece in either 3 or 5 plies. This wood is sturdier than solid because it is more directionally stable.

If you need a sturdy wood that will stand up to the humidity you may find in a bathroom, kitchen, or laundry room you may want to go with engineered or laminate hardwood flooring. This wood is very stable because it is formed with several layers of thin wood, with the wood grain going in different directions.

You will also need to decide what kind of installation style you would like. Strip flooring is long strips of wood that are 1/4", 1 1/2", or 3 1/4" wide. Many people love this because the wood strips are very long and not broken up. This creates a long line, making your room look longer. Plank flooring is a lot like strip flooring, but the strips are a lot wider at 3, 4, 5, or 6 inches. Parquet flooring is large pieces of wood that is laid out like quilt pieces to make an interesting design.

Cleaning your Flooring - Usually, when people think of hardwood flooring they think of how hard they are to clean. Not true. New technology in stains and finishes makes them a snap to clean up. Small stains can be cleaned up with a damp cloth or paper towel. Larger messes can be cleaned up with a dust mop or vacuum. Many find that a steamer mop designed for hardwood floors is a lifesaver when there are kids around.

Cleaning your Flooring - Hardwood flooring is not as hard to clean as most people think. In fact, it is quite simple thanks to new technology in stains and finishes. Small spills need to be quickly cleaned up with a damp cloth or paper towel and larger messes can be cleaned up with a dust mop, vacuum, or steam mop designed for hardwood floors. Vinyl cleaners and standing water should never be used on hardwood flooring because they can stain, discolor, and even permanently ruin the wood's finish. Occasionally, the floor will need to be cleaned with cleaning products recommended by the manufacturer and it should also be waxed once or twice a year, or as needed.

Hardwood flooring is an overall good choice for any home's flooring needs. Just a little thought when buying, and a little loving care when cleaning, is all a family needs to have a beautiful floor for years to come.

How to Get Rid of Unwanted Presents

By Dark Sith

It really is nice to give and receive gifts, whether for birthdays or holidays. As the saying goes, "it's the thought that counts," so many people don't mind if the item is not expensive, as long as it is something useful.

Over the holidays, you probably receive at least one gift from a relative or friend, ranging from food to house decorations. It is nice to receive gifts, but sometimes there is a present you receive that gets put in your closet, attic, garage, or elsewhere and remain unused because it doesn't match your taste, fashion, or lifestyle. You wouldn't dare throw it away, because you would soon feel the guilt creeping in.

You only will decide to discard all unopened and unused items after several months or years of collecting dust and occupying space. By that time, either the gift is unusable or out of style.

Of course you can't always suggest to those people what you want them to give you. There will always be people who don't know you well, or think they do and buy you something that you will not like.

Putting Unwanted Gifts to Good Use

You don't want these gifts to go to waste, right? This doesn't mean you force yourself to use them. If you do not like the item, surely someone out there will. You can't prevent those Kris Kringles at work or those random acquaintances from being nice and giving you gifts.

You've gone through several years of wasting those unwanted gifts, so now it is the time to put a stop to it. There are a lot of people who are willing to use them. The best part is, you will also benefit from it.

Before anything else, set a space aside where you will put the unwanted presents that you receive. When you have some spare time, carefully open up the package and take note of who gave those presents. Check for price tags or some signs where the item was bought. This will help you discard of these items, too.

Classify the gifts. If the item is perishable, like food, then put it on your priority list so that you can get rid of it right away. If the gifts are not perishable, then keep them clean and safe from damage.

Now that you have arranged and classified your unwanted gifts, here are some ways to get rid of those items in a way you will benefit.

* Re-Gift the Gift - If you love giving gifts, then why not give your unwanted ones to others? You can save a bundle of money on buying new gifts when you use your unwanted ones. Since you will be saving a lot of money in "recycling" your gifts, the least you can do is re-wrap the gift in new wrapping paper and make sure you don't give the gift to the same person that gave it to you. This is where your list comes in handy. It will not only be embarrassing but also disappointing if you accidentally re-gift a gift to the person that gave it to you.

* Make Money, Sell it - If you have tried to re-gift the items and there are still a lot left, or you feel too guilty to give them away as "recycled gifts," then selling them is not a bad idea. There are many ways to sell the gifts and you can earn a considerable amount of money, given the fact that you did not spend a single penny on any of them. As long as the items are still in good condition, you can sell them at a competitive price. You can hold a garage sale on a weekend or sell them online if you are too busy.

Putting them up for sale on the Internet is very convenient, since you reach out to a wider audience without spending much of your time and money. There are so many websites where you can put them up for sale. EBay is probably the most popular one. All you have to do is post your item with specific details. You will likely have more luck if you provide an actual picture of the item you are selling. You would not spend much money because the buyer usually shoulders the shipping rates. If things go well, you'll be earning money on items that usually would sit in your closet, collecting dust.

* Return or Exchange - If you know where the gift you have was bought, you can visit that store and return or exchange it for another item. Price tags, even when partially torn off, will give you an idea of where it was bought, so inspect your gifts.

This one will only work a few days after the gift was given, so inspect your gifts as soon as you get them. Items that cost more are ideal for this. If you try to return an item after the allowed time, you may not be able to exchange the item or get money back.

* Give it to Charity - If you have no other way of getting rid of your unwanted gifts, giving it to a charitable institution will be your best option. Charitable institutions accept a wide variety of items, so if you were given a pink bathrobe, a tacky tie, or any item that can be used by someone else, then give it away. You won't be getting money, but it will leave a warm, fuzzy feeling inside you, knowing that you will be helping out other people. Churches and NGOs (Non-Government Organizations) are just some of the institutions where you can donate the gifts you have.

Gifts are wonderful things to give and receive, but since it is impossible to always get what you really want or need, there will always be unwanted presents. With these tips, you hopefully can make those items more useful than just dust collectors and closet fillers.

Hanging Wallpaper? Detail is Key

By Guy Morris

Buying and hanging wallpaper can seem like a daunting task. There are so many patterns to choose from and it's important to install it properly because the workmanship will be on display. Here are some tips to installing and choosing wallpaper that will make your first wallpaper experience a bit less stressful.

First, you need to choose the wallpaper and much of this depends on the room you'll be installing it in. You want it to match the dcor of the room but you also want to think about the material. A vinyl wallpaper is best for the kitchen, bathroom, or the entire house if you live in a humid climate. Vinyl will help repel moisture while fabric wall paper is fine for other rooms and dryer climates.

Wallpaper is purchased in rolls and you need to determine how many rolls you'll need. Properly measure the room that you'll be hanging the wallpaper. The less pattern repeat there is, the more wallpaper you'll need since there will be waste in matching the pattern. There are tools online to help you determine how much you'll need. Most home improvement stores will allow you to return unused rolls so you can overestimate. Make sure you buy rolls of the same lot since slight color changes will show especially if they are installed side by side.

After you have your wallpaper, you'll want to get the right tools. There are complete kits you can buy or you can buy the tools separately. You need a razor knife, scissors, measuring tape, sponges and a seam roller. Depending on the room you may also need a foot stool or ladder. If adhesive is not already applied to the wallpaper then you'll need to buy adhesive made for wallpaper. Don't worry, you won't need anything as complicated as a table top router or anything.

Prepare the surface by removing all outlet plates and clean the surface of dirt and grease. Repair any imperfections in the wall such as uneven areas and holes. Choose a place to start that is inconspicuous such as behind a door or under a window since you might have to mismatch later. Draw a vertical line from top to bottom. Make sure it is straight so use a leveler if possible.

Prepare the paper by wetting it if it comes with self adhesive or mix wallpaper glue and dip it. After you have dipped the wallpaper it will be impossible to keep it straight so "book" the paper back and forth but do not crease it. Creases will show after the wallpaper dries and will be impossible to fix. Hang the wallpaper along the vertical "plum" line. Attach subsequent strips in the same manner, ensuring the pattern is accurately matched.

With these few tips, you should be able to tackle your first wallpaper project. Take your time, do it right, and the end result will be professional.

The Genesis of Soil

By Kim and Charles Petty

Soil primarily had its beginning from rock together with animal and vegetable decay, if you can imagine long stretches or periods of time when great rock masses were crumbling and breaking up. Heat, water action, and friction were largely responsible for this. By friction here is meant the rubbing and grinding of rock mass against rock mass. Think of the huge rocks, a perfect chaos of them, bumping, scraping, settling against one another. What would be the result? Well, I am sure you all could work that out. This is what happened: bits of rock were worn off, a great deal of heat was produced, pieces of rock were pressed together to form new rock masses, some portions becoming dissolved in water. Why, I myself, almost feel the stress and strain of it all. Can you?

Then, too, there were great changes in temperature. First everything was heated to a high temperature, then gradually became cool. Just think of the cracking, the crumbling, the upheavals, that such changes must have caused! You know some of the effects in winter of sudden freezes and thaws. But the little examples of bursting water pipes and broken pitchers are as nothing to what was happening in the world during those days. The water and the gases in the atmosphere helped along this crumbling work.

From all this action of rubbing, which action we call mechanical, it is easy enough to understand how sand was formed. This represents one of the great divisions of soil sandy soil. The sea shores are great masses of pure sand. If soil were nothing but broken rock masses then indeed it would be very poor and unproductive. But the early forms of animal and vegetable life decaying became a part of the rock mass and a better soil resulted. So the soils we speak of as sandy soils have mixed with the sand other matter, sometimes clay, sometimes vegetable matter or humus, and often animal waste.

Clay brings us right to another class of soils clayey soils. It happens that certain portions of rock masses became dissolved when water trickled over them and heat was plenty and abundant. This dissolution took place largely because there is in the air a certain gas called carbon dioxide or carbonic acid gas. This gas attacks and changes certain substances in rocks. Sometimes you see great rocks with portions sticking up looking as if they had been eaten away. Carbonic acid did this. It changed this eaten part into something else which we call clay. A change like this is not mechanical but chemical. The difference in the two kinds of change is just this: in the one case of sand, where a mechanical change went on, you still have just what you started with, save that the size of the mass is smaller. You started with a big rock, and ended with little particles of sand. But you had no different kind of rock in the end. Mechanical action might be illustrated with a piece of lump sugar. Let the sugar represent a big mass of rock. Break up the sugar, and even the smallest bit is sugar. It is just so with the rock mass; but in the case of a chemical change you start with one thing and end with another. You started with a big mass of rock which had in it a portion that became changed by the acid acting on it. It ended in being an entirely different thing which we call clay. So in the case of chemical change a certain something is started with and in the end we have an entirely different thing. The clay soils are often called mud soils because of the amount of water used in their formation.

The third sort of soil which we farm people have to deal with is lime soil. Remember we are thinking of soils from the farm point of view. This soil of course ordinarily was formed from limestone. Just as soon as one thing is mentioned about which we know nothing, another comes up of which we are just as ignorant. And so a whole chain of questions follows. Now you are probably saying within yourselves, how was limestone first formed?

At one time ages ago the lower animal and plant forms picked from the water particles of lime. With the lime they formed skeletons or houses about themselves as protection from larger animals. Coral is representative of this class of skeleton-forming animal.

As the animal died the skeleton remained. Great masses of this living matter pressed all together, after ages, formed limestone. Some limestones are still in such shape that the shelly formation is still visible. Marble, another limestone, is somewhat crystalline in character. Another well-known limestone is chalk. Perhaps you'd like to know a way of always being able to tell limestone. Drop a little of this acid on some lime. See how it bubbles and fizzles. Then drop some on this chalk and on the marble, too. The same bubbling takes place. So lime must be in these three structures. One does not have to buy a special acid for this work, for even the household acids like vinegar will cause the same result.

Then these are the three types of soil with which the farmer has to deal, and which we wish to understand. For one may learn to know his garden soil by studying it, just as one learns a lesson by study.

Drywalls Tools and Equipment for the First Timer

By Kurt Schefken

Hanging and mudding drywall can be an intimidating project especially if it's your first time. While you could hire a professional, a small drywall project can be a great first do-it-yourself job to get you familiar with the process. You can find tutorials online or on DVD but here are some basics to get you familiar with drywall installation and mudding.

Having the right drywall equipment is essential. Basic drywall tools aren't expensive so there isn't a large investment and you'll be able to reuse the tools on future projects.

You'll need measuring and fitting tools such a measuring tape, a t-square that is large enough to run the width of a panel of drywall, a plastic or metal corner tool and a leveling tool. To cut the drywall you should use a jigsaw but for small projects that only require right angles, you can use a cutting tool. You'll also need other cutting tools such as a utility knife and other knives of various lengths for finishing.

For putting up the drywall you'll need drywall screws or nails and tools to affix them, such as a hammer and screwdriver or drill. You'll also need an all purpose drywall compound which comes in powder form or premixed as well as a mud pan for mixing the compound. Special paper tape and textured tape is required to hide the seams prior to mudding. You'll also need trowels for applying the compound and sandpaper (course and fine grit) for finishing the drywall.

The key to hanging drywall is planning and having patience. Don't rush through it. If you do, it will show in the results. If you take several days the results will look professional.

Take accurate measurements of the area you're going to apply drywall and add a bit more for cutting and waste. Purchase the right drywall for the job. There is special drywall that is moisture resistant which should be used for the bathroom or homes in tropical climates. Measure out the drywall using your t-square to ensure you cut the drywall straight. Score the drywall will a utility knife and then break off the excess.

Attach the drywall so there are as few seams as possible and the pieces are as close together as possible. Start from the top and move down so that most of the horizontal seams are at the bottom. Make sure all your screws and nails are flush (if not a bit indented) with the drywall. Once it is hung, use the drywall tape to cover over the seams.

Use a putty knife to apply the compound and smooth it out. Wait 24 hours and apply another coat and repeat this two more times. For finishing, use a putty knife and sandpaper to make sure the wall is smooth.

A History And Guide To Mojacar

By Chris Channing

When planning your next vacation consider Mojacar, a wonderful place with a laid back environment, warm sunshine, and sandy beaches. The beautiful beaches and all of the simplistic charms contained in the area will ensure that your trip will be a pleasant one. These lovely attractions are protected by many legal limitations so you will not have to fear with dealing with a fake, resort like vacation. If you enjoy traditional atmospheres, with real people, and a real, anti resort like feeling, then Mojocar is the place for you.

Mojacar is held in Almeria, a region of Spain. As you draw towards the city a seemingly white mountain will welcome you. Due to the white washed houses that are held closely to the sides of the cliffs the city appears as a snow covered mountain top in the tropical environment. The houses are squeezed together by the crystal clear sea and the mountains of the Sierra Cabrera. These factors help Mojacar to be the most celebrated tourist attraction in the entire Southern corner of Spain.

The history of this great culture is well kept by the citizens of the area. If you plan on visiting the area you will do well to know something about it before visiting. The Arabians were the first noted inhabitants of the area. They named in Munsaqar and spent hundreds of years fighting the Christian armies over the right to live in the area. There remain many historical artifacts and architecture that have stood the test of time.

In the fifteenth century Spain reclaimed the area led by King Ferdinand. Some of the Arabians architecture has been preserved and today is being protected by law. One of these preserved pieces of architecture is the Moorish fortress, which brings the visitor in to the environment the Arabs existed in after their travels from Africa.

In memory of the Arabian-Christian struggle that took place in the area a huge fiesta is held every year. Mock battles fought with fake swords, fantastic outfits, and enormous cigars are all used to better remember the struggle that happened there, as well as throw a swell party.

One of the most infamous claims of the area is that Walt Disney was born in Mojacar. It is said that Walt's true mother was an inhabitant of the city and he was born to her as an illegitimate child. His mother was so ashamed that she was forced to flee the area. She traveled to America to attempt to better her luck. While in America she placed Walt up for adoption. He was then taken in by Flora and Elias Disney. None of these claims can be proven, because all records of the children born in Mojacar were burned during the Spanish Civil War.

Restrictions have been put in place in several different fashions to ensure that Mojacar's beauty is not over taken by big buildings and big business. Hotels can reach no higher than four floors tall, and residential buildings can only reach up to two stories. The beach stretches to a length of seventeen kilometers. Only seven kilometers or that seventeen are developed what so ever. This leaves the remaining ten kilometers natural and not to be tampered with.

Mojacar is a breathtaking place that will have you planning a new trip as soon as you return home. This wonderful tradition and great beauty will not be spoiled any time to come soon.

Grow Your Own Tasty and Healthful Organic Vegetables

By Sarah Duke

Many people know that there are a lot of health benefits to eating fruits and vegetables that have been grown organically. However, not all of them eat organic food regularly, in part because of the price. Many organic vegetables are more expensive than conventionally grown ones.

Fortunately, anyone with a vegetable garden can grow organic vegetables of their own for much less than they could buy them at the store.

This is great if you have the lots of room in your yard, but many people feel that an organic garden takes more space, time, or skill than they have. This isn't necessarily true. Growing an organic garden isn't as hard as most people believe.

Are you wondering what an organic garden is? Most gardeners describe organic gardening as simply avoiding the use of anything chemical or artificial as fertilizer and insect control. They instead use natural materials and methods to maintain the health of the soil and the food, as well as their own.

Why is organic gardening such a good thing? Organic gardeners will tell you that the quality of the vegetable is nutritionally superior to anything you can get in the supermarket because the soils are kept nutrient-rich with natural materials. Not depleted and artificially fertilized. And the flavor is amazing.

With an organic garden, you will have the peace of mind of knowing that your food is truly free of harmful chemical toxins. There is also the added satisfaction of doing the work, and harvesting your own crop. Just think of the fresh air you'll enjoy, as well as the healthy benefits of exercising while you take care of your garden.

One important method used in organic gardening is mulching. This involves regularly incorporating old organic matter into the soil, which helps it retain more moisture, suppresses weeds, and reduces the fluctuation of temperature. Soil that has been mulched is also less likely to form a hard crust. Many gardeners have also discovered that they have fewer problems with plant disease when they mulch.

Of course, the main reason for growing organically is to avoid the use of chemicals and commercially produced fertilizers and pesticides. This helps to maintain healthy soil across numerous growing seasons. More importantly, you can be sure that the food your family is eating is free of pesticides and herbicides.

That doesn't mean there's nothing you can do about insects or diseases that infect your plants. You can use natural sprays and other substances to discourage pests. Larger creatures can be controlled with traps, and many insects can be dealt with by encouraging their predators.

If organic produce prices stay high and people remain concerned about the food they eat, you might even be able to make a little extra money from your garden. Neighborhood and community gardening projects are also getting a lot more popular.

At the very least, home grown, organic vegetables definitely taste better.

Gardening: Caring for Roses Guide

By Lucy Gartner

Gardening caring for roses is a wonderful way to spend your spare time. Roses are among the most exquisite looking plants that you can ever care for. Not everyone however will meet with success when caring for roses. If you want roses that truly look fantastic, then you should know how to care for your plant properly.

Before Planting

First of all, you should know that there are many different kinds of roses. Not all of them will grow well in the area where you live. The first step should therefore be to find out which kinds are best for your area. You can quickly research on this online or you can also ask some of your neighbors who grow roses for recommendations. Once you've settled on a kind you want to grow, you also have to consider the availability of an ideal area for roses. The spot for your roses should be accessible to sunlight, should be spacious and should have clean, rich and dry soil.

Fertilizing and Feeding

Roses are plants that can really figuratively munch. You should therefore have a ready store of food for your roses. Not every rose expert will agree on the right way to feed roses. Some suggest giving roses small but regular meals. There are stores that sell packed rose food but always pick a brand with lots of nutrients.

Hold your horses though when it comes to fertilization. Young roses have to be fertilized only in small amounts. Only adult roses can receive a full cup fertilizer. Some milder forms of fertilizer may be used once a week if you prefer more frequent rose fertilizing. If you are a little busy though, you can settle for the fertilizer type that can be applied only twice a year. Don't fertilizer throughout the year. You should cease fertilizing in the last month of fall.

Water Ration

Watering is always a part of gardening caring for roses. These flowers should be provided with an inch or two of water every week. They need deep watering that will seep into the soil but will not keep the soil wet the whole day. If the soil and leaves are constantly wet, the roses may become diseased. The perfect time to water these flowers would be in the mornings.

Cutting Stems

Pruning is a basic rose grooming tip you shouldn't neglect. You can start pruning as soon as buds make an appearance. Before you cut healthy stems, remove all the dead ones first. You should then consider diagonally cutting some chosen stems. This will allow you to shape your rose plant according to your preference.

Spraying

Roses should be sprayed to prevent disease. Some gardeners would prefer to use spray solutions mixed in gardening stores. There are others though who use home made preparations like baking soda solutions. Whatever type of solution you prefer, regular spraying is a great way to stop disease from spreading and killing your plant.

Some may imagine that gardening caring for roses is difficult. All you really need though is a lot of time, diligence and patience to offer your rose plant.

Your Home Water Filter System

By Trent Barrett

There are many different options on the market today for delivering clean water to your home, from the cheap activated charcoal faucet-mounted filters to the complex reverse osmosis systems that install under your kitchen sink. While you may be tempted to go with the least expensive water filter system, you should consider your needs first. For someone who buys lots of bottled water, a good reverse osmosis system may be better; for country water that comes from a well, an ultraviolet filter may be a better choice, with its excellent ability to kill biological contaminants.

For water that just needs a little improvement, stick with the simple activated-charcoal tap mounted water filter systems. These are good for water with little contamination and relatively good flavor, using activated charcoal to filter out chlorine and any slight problems in water and give you clean pure drinking water. Ceramic water filter systems work in similar fashion, using diatomaceous earth as a filter.

If your water is relatively unpleasant to drink and you find yourself spending a lot of money every month on bottled water, it might be a good idea to go with a reverse osmosis drinking water filter system. The most basic of these consists of an osmotic filter where the water comes in, a reservoir where purified water is stored, and a tap separate from your regular sink tap where your purified water comes out. Where the activated charcoal water filter system removes contaminants when water is forced through the filter, an osmotic filter removes contaminants passively, allowing very pure water to seep through the filter while all contaminants remain on the other side. The result is bottled-water quality drinking water.

Reverse osmosis drinking water filter systems do have drawbacks. They take ten gallons of water to make one gallon of filtered water; the rest is used to flush out the filter. They process water very slowly, so they need a reservoir into which the purified water is placed. And they sometimes let a biological contaminant through, where it can contaminate the entire reservoir. This last problem can be solved by using a three-filter system instead of a single-filter system; in this drinking water filter system, water is first forced through an activated carbon water filter, then allowed to diffuse through the filter. Finally, just before the reservoir an ultraviolet water purifier shines powerful ultraviolet light on the water, irradiating and killing any biological contaminants while leaving the water itself pure and clear for your drinking leisure.

One unique type of water filter system you should consider: the whole house water filter system. If you have a problem with hard water or you have family members with breathing problems, these filtration systems can improve the quality of your entire water supply, removing contaminants from your shower before they get to you, guaranteeing you good drinking water from any tap, and preventing chlorine from entering your house, where it can vaporize and become chloroform, a lung irritant that can worsen asthma. With a whole house water filter system, you can rest easy that your whole household will be a cleaner, healthier place.

Different Types of Termites

By John Daily

We all know that Termites can live near or in your house. However, finding these little critters and eradicating them can be a difficult task. It is always advised to have Pest Management Professionals to solve your pest problems. They are taught how to get rid of termites and do just that on a daily basis.

Even if you are able to detect that termites are actively roaming your vicinity, locating their nests can be a completely different quest. It requires a great deal of work and energy to locate a termite nest. Sometimes people get so caught up in killing every termite that they see; they forget that a nest is replacing these workers as rapidly as they are perishing. You must ask yourself where termites live and what type of environment would house their colonies before advancing in your endeavors.

Generally, termites live on pieces of wood and underground. However, they can also take shelter within your real estate. It can be difficult to spot this species in your home, so consulting a professional is advised before disregarding their presence.

Subterranean termites live on top of soil, which makes this species easier to spot. These termites use mud tubes to connect their nests to their food sources. This provides an ideal transportation system - especially since they lack eyesight and have to rely on other senses. These pathways also serve as a way to protect them against natural enemies such as ants.

Where do termites live besides underground? Termites also thrive well in dry wood. Such choice of habitat gave them the name drywood termites. These organisms live in the same place where they get their nutrition. Signs of their nesting activity include leaks, holes and cracks on wood portions of the house such as posts, doors, and flooring. Decayed wood, timber and tree trunks in the yard are also appealing places for drywood termites. Decayed wood is easy to digest and contains fungi that are also good sources of nitrogen for termites.

Where do termites live? What makes these places ideal environment for colony formation? Termites prefer an environment with adequate moisture content or where there is an adjacent water source. Places that provide them protection from extreme weather conditions and secure them from their natural enemies like the ants are ideal niches.

Remember that termite activity is at its lowest in the winter. However, due to global warming and termite intellect guiding them for a perfect habitat, some termites can continue to feast on your property throughout the winter. You can use this knowledge that has been presented to inspect your property. If you are having trouble, feel free to consult a professional and seek their advice.

Refinancing Your Florida Mortgage

By Loiue Latour

Are you refinancing your mortgage and want to get the lowest mortgage rates? There are several things you should know about the rate quotes you receive before refinancing to avoid paying too much. The quotes you get from your broker and on the Internet include commission based markup that drives up your payment by hundreds of dollars each month. Here is what you need to know about this unnecessary markup to avoid paying too much for your next mortgage.

Beware Yield Spread Premium

This commission based markup of your interest rate is called Yield Spread Premium. It is the percentage of your loan amount created when you lock and close the mortgage with higher than market interest rates. This amount is paid to your mortgage broker as a bonus for inflating your mortgage rate.

Yield Spread Premium in a Typical Mortgage Loan

Imagine you're refinancing your home and your existing mortgage is for $350,000. Your mortgage broker quotes you a rate of 6.5%. You agree to pay a one percent origination fee for the broker's services meaning you have to come up with $3500 at closing. What your mortgage broker hasn't told you is that you actually qualified for a 6% mortgage rate and they've marked it up for a commission. You get stuck paying too much for your mortgage loan and your broker walks away with an extra $7000 from your lender.

What Does This Do To Your Payments?

If you refinanced your home with a fixed rate mortgage for 30 years at six and a half percent your mortgage payment would be around $2200. The same loan at six percent interest has a payment of around $2090. That's a difference of $1320 per year that you're losing every year because the broker took advantage of you!

It is possible for homeowners who understand Yield Spread Premium to avoid this unnecessary markup and refinance with a wholesale mortgage rate. When you do this it is only necessary to pay a one percent origination fee to the broker. You can do this for yourself by investing a few hours doing your homework and can save yourself thousands of dollars in the process.

Real Esate "Agency" is often misunderstood!

By Steve Simon

I have taught real estate princ. and prac. for over twenty years. Thousands and thousands of students have interacted with me on dozens and dozens of different areas of study. Nowhere in this vast body of contact have I ever seen a more often ignored concept than that of "Agency".

Who does the real estate agent that you're talking to represent?

If you're a buyer does the agent work for you? Do they try to obtain the lowest price for you? Hard to imagine since over 95% of all real estate compensation is based on commission, and that is based on sales price!

If you're a seller, is the agent you hired telling buyers to, "make an offer, they really have to sell" or worse revealing what other offers have been on the table and the result!

When you are entering into a real estate relationship spend a little extra time talking about Agency, and who represents you and who does not.

I usually tell clients that a real estate professional has three important things to remember (there are more than three, but these are the most important):

What can I say? What I can't say? What I must say?

Protection For Landscaping Trees in A Landscape Garden

By Mark Robinson

One of the factors in ensuring that your garden plants, shrubs and trees grow well in your garden is that you ensure that wind damage is vastly reduced. Trees in Landscape Gardening can be heavily damaged by biting winds in many ways. One of the most effective ways in which to minimize wind damage is by utilizing Tree Shelters and Other Protection.

Tree Shelters and Other Protection can drastically reduce damage to fresh buds, leaves and shoots by creating a full or partial barrier to the wind. Prevailing winds rock the trees forwards and backwards creating damage to the roots especially the fibrous roots, this, and the fact that winds can also increase osmosis, means that trees easily become seriously dehydrated. Tree Shelters and Windbreak Netting are really cheap items of garden equipment so why cut corners? In the end it will more than likely work out more costly in the long run if you do not use them.

Protecting landscaping trees in very exposed areas can be very difficult and you will, most likely, decide that it would be more effective to use both windbreak netting and tree shelters together. By using this tip you will discover that you have manufactured something similar a controlled environment, these useful devices also help in stabilizing the surrounding air temperature by acting as insulation (as the best types have twin walls). Also, because they are moulded from an incredibly strong and durable type of clear or opaque polyethylene the resulting tree shelters are relatively lighter than if a different material was used. They are very easy to flat pack resulting in transportation which is easy and cheap, even heavy weight designs are light weight.

If you reside in a coastal location you will find that tree shelters are also a great solution for the problem of salt damage. Reducing salt damage is, most probably the only way to ensure that some species of tree flourish in such gardens. Windbreak netting is also a fantastic, easy way to increase protection against damage by salt. Windbreak netting is also good for reducing sunlight in sunny positions as it restricts sunlight by forty to fifty percent.

Tree Shelters and Other Protection are also advisable if you reside in a location where animals are a problem. Tree shelters can stop any damage caused by browsing creatures such as dear, rabbits etc. The spiral types have been designed for this reason and are most probably the most logical. Windbreak netting is not likely to stop rabbits because it is usually made from a mesh of polyethylene but it will most probnably stop other animals.

Avoid Common Indoor Gardener Mistakes

By Kent Higgins

A home filled with potted plants is a home that exudes character, warmth and fertility. Plants can provide an emotional boost, help cleanse the air and are great simply for their decorative qualities. But the choice and maintenance of potted plants can pose some difficulties.

First is the knowledge that particular plants often require very exacting sizes of pots. They also need to be kept in an area of the home where they'll receive just the perfect amount of sunlight for their variety, and soil levels and the moisture levels of that soil need to be constantly monitored. Many plant species may also require additional touches to keep them in perfect shape. If this sounds like a lot of work, it can be, plants are after all living things that have the same little quirks, likes and dislikes you would find in an animal or human. Once you have your routine down though, you'll find that maintaining your plant in optimal health is not so hard at all.

Variety is the spice of life, so you can't go wrong by populating your abode with a variety of unique and interesting plant life. To cut down on the amount of upkeep required of a variety of different plants and their unique characteristics, choose a few species that require very little water, and little to no fertilizer. These plants will all but maintain themselves, and cut down on the amount of upkeep you'll need to provide for them. Spider plants and cacti are common and popular plants that don't require a lot of special treatment.

As mentioned, pot size and beyond that even pot style and construction material can all play a role in how well your plant takes to them, and well they fit together from an aesthetic standpoint. Let your flair and creativity take root here.

For well lit open corners of a room, a large standing plant is a great choice. A palm is a great choice, but will need more room away from the corner so it isn't restricted.

Most potted plants will need to be re-potted every year or two, though others like bonsais can remain in the same pot for many years if properly cared for. Many plants will require re-potting and/or trimming though as they continue to grow and outgrow their pot or interfere with other household areas through their continued growth.

By carefully staging out your planting duties by acquiring your plants at different times of the years, as well as having species with different growth rates, you can minimize the amount of upkeep that would be required all at once and not get overwhelmed with the workload.

The other benefit of these air cleaning indoor plantsis the variety of species that many will bloom at different times throughout the year, and for varying lengths of time, ensuring you'll always have a nice mix of fully grown and developing plants around.

By mixing up the variety of plants in your house, you can keep a thriving and attractive residence with a minimal amount of upkeep. It's the best of both worlds.

The Challenges of Herbal Medicine

By Charlie Reese

Herbal Medicine Takes Healthcare Back To Its Roots

Long before modern medicine began compounding chemicals to take the place of hard to find herbs and other botanicals, herbal medicine was the only available type of medical treatment. Through centuries of trial and error herbs were used to treat a plethora of illnesses and injuries and throughout the period, different plants were found to be better on certain ailments than others. For example, the aloe vera plant was found beneficial for burns and punctures all the while aiding the natural healing process.

Many of today's medical breakthroughs are the result of the study of herbal medicine and when some of the ingredients were proven to be too hard to come by, scientists began working in the laboratory to develop synthetic versions of the plant's phytocemicals hoping to duplicate the results. Many of today's medicines are successful in offering hope to the ill or injured, but many synthetic compounds also have side effects not usually seen in those used in herbal medicine.

Partly due to the presence of side effects and possibly due to a distrust of modern medicine, herbalists continue to practice herbal medicine with the admonishment that by curing illnesses with products made with natural ingredients offers a safer means of taking care of their patients.

Ancient Civilizations Counted On Herbal Medicine

Throughout history, ancient civilizations in Egypt, India and China used herbal medicine for all illnesses as well as for taking care of their injured warriors. Over the years they perfected their practices but unfortunately, most of the botanicals that were compounded were not written down and subsequent generations had to rely on the memories of their elders to carry on the practice of herbal medicine in those cultures.

Some of the more modern methods used in herbal medicine can be traced back to the Chinese who continue to use many of their ancient methods today. By adopting many of their medical practices, herbalists are using only natural ingredients in their medications as well as in many of their practices. Techniques such as acupuncture and massages using the essential oils of plant have their roots in herbal medicine and for many there is no reason to adapt to the newer medical technology.

Most practitioners of today's modern, or more traditional medical practices shun the use of herbal medicine in favor of those that have been proven in laboratory tests. On the other hand, herbalists remain convinced that the proof that their techniques work is in the number of patients they have been able to help without side effects.

Outdoor Lighting = Outdoor Safety

By Thomas Fryd

Keeping your home exterior well lit at night is a great safety practice, providing a number of benefits. Not only will it protect you from tripping over obstacles or other hazards, it also has the benefit of deterring would be thieves.

Automated outdoor lighting, also known as dusk-to-dawn lighting gives the impression to others that the homeowner is at home. This is important whether you're at home or not. The two greatest deterrents to thieves are the possibility of being seen, making darkness their best friend, and even more so is the threat of the homeowner being home. This is why a number of home robberies occur in broad daylight, as thieves trade off the comfort of darkness for the higher sense of security that stems from the owner not being home. From the statistics, you can clearly see that a darkened home at night is at the greatest risk of home robbery, as thieves can operate in the comfort of darkness while also knowing or at least suspecting that the owners are not home, or are at the very least asleep.

Outdoor lighting is also a great way to prevent accidents on your property, especially for households with children, where the possibility of toys and other small trinkets being strewn about the property is much greater. Even the tiniest, most innocent seeming object can have the effect of turning an ankle and causing a fall when undetected by the eye. Homes in northern regions will also benefit from outdoor lighting, making those patches of ice easily visible and not quite the threat they would be otherwise.

Area outdoor solar landscape lighting ensures that the homeowner can see the entirety of their property at all times, and imparts a great sense of security. While motion detectors that trigger lights can also be effective for avoiding injuries and possibly deterring thieves, they don't give the same sense of comfort that landscape lighting will provide at night, as they don't give the impression that the owner is at home, and in fact thieves may not even be aware of them until they're triggered. They also don't allow you to see what's happening on your property if a noise alerts you to something happening outside your home.

Convincing other neighbours to also switch to outdoor area lighting can have the effect of brightening up your entire street and making it a safe haven during even the darkest of nights.

Simple Things to Avoid in Kitchen Layout Designs

By Jerry Blackburn

Often, those planning a kitchen remodeling project are so focused on getting exactly what they want for their kitchen that they disregard some of the logical, simple things to be avoided in a kitchen remodeling layout. The typical problem is that people tend to think only their individual needs when planning the remodeling layout and forget that others will use their kitchen at some point in the kitchen, likely after they sell the home sooner or later. If you are on the process of planning your kitchen design, here are some of these simple things you should avoid.

Avoid Insisting on Putting in a Kitchen Triangle

Although you may have watched your dad and mom work in the kitchen triangle while growing up, it is not necessary that you have one in your own kitchen. Yes, a kitchen triangle can be helpful at times but if you have a fairly large sized kitchen, it really is not appropriate to have a kitchen triangle in the middle of this room. Rather, consider using a designer workstation that is, certainly, more welcoming in a larger kitchen than the traditional triangle.

Do Not Design Your Kitchen For Only One Person

Even if you are currently single and the only one using your kitchen, this is not sufficient reason to plan your kitchen design based on these circumstances. Unless you have decided to become a hermit for the remainder of your life, never design your kitchen remodeling layout for only one person. Think of the future when designing your new kitchen, even if you have no plans of marriage or kids in your future. You are sure to share your kitchen with someone in the future so be sure your kitchen is large enough for this situation. Besides, it is always nice to have enough space to move around while preparing food. If you can afford it, do not limit your kitchen space.

Do Not Limit Yourself on Storage Spaces

When it comes to designing your kitchen remodeling layout, never short yourself on storage space. It does not matter if you have no present need for storing a lot of food or other items in your kitchen. Usually, things in your home accumulate over time so be sure you provide enough space to store these items to prevent excess clutter in the future. Besides, a kitchen that has enough space for everything will look cleaner and far more put together.

You can find many other useful tips online to ensure you create the finest kitchen design possible so you can enjoy your kitchen to its fullest potential without diminishing your home's future resale value. Be sure to look beyond your current kitchen needs and wants to consider not only your future circumstances and needs, but also functional needs of others that may one day use your kitchen.

What Will Increase The Value Of Your Home - Best Remodeling Jobs

By Adrian Fletcher

Most homeowners are always looking to improve, remodel or update their property. After all, their home is probably the biggest financial investment they will ever make. They will spend many years paying off this investment and want to preserve it's value or make it more comfortable to live in.

And of course the bonus of any well planned remodeling project is that it can not only retain the value of your investment but add value to it too. In fact, a major refurbishment of a property is often the precursor to selling as this can bring a healthy return on investment that can be used to buy a new property.

This article will point out some of the most important areas of the house that will benefit from a remodeling project and add value to your home. No one wants to pour money into a big remodeling project that won't produce a good return on investment. So the first thing that needs to be considered is which areas of your home need the home improvement the most.

Most real estate agents believe that the room that makes the biggest first impression to potential buyers is the kitchen. A well designed, modern looking kitchen will not only sell a house but it will add the most value to the house (all things being even). For simple, cheap kitchen remodeling projects, people will replace the cabinets and worktops or replace the flooring.

These are relatively simple refurbishment jobs. They are also quite cheap if you do the work yourself. There is a good selection of cabinets and worktops at most DIY stores. They are easy to construct and install in the kitchen. Flooring is also quite inexpensive. Vinyl flooring material is the easiest and cheapest to use for a remodeling project.

The bathroom is the second room to make that all important impression on a potential buyer. It is also most likely to sell the house and add value. Typical projects in this room include updating tired facilities or making the room more functional. for instance, you may decide to add a shower unit if it does not have one. Or maybe you want to add more storage space to make the room look less cluttered.

The family room or lounge may be the first room that springs to mind when considering a remodeling project. It is where you spend much of your time and you probably have some strong views on what needs to be done. This is fine if you intend to stay in the property for any length of time. However, if you are selling the house then keep the remodeling as simple as possible. Potential buyers see these rooms as the first room to stamp their personality on. If it has a highly individual look it may put people off and reduce the value of the home.

A couple of the other ways that homeowners typically use to do remodeling projects is to add another bedroom. This could be physically adding a new room or modifying the basement or attic to be another room. It could be turned into a bedroom or a games room or study. All of these, though, are great projects if you trying to increase the value of your home through remodeling and construction.

Swimming pools and many outdoor projects don't have a good return on your outlay. Adding high tech. gadgetry into the home isn't good either. Adding extra space and making the kitchen and bathroom look good are the best ways of getting return on your money.

Good Information Is Key To Good Remodeling

By Linden Walhard

While many people would consider kitchen renovations a very expensive undertaking, this does not have to be the case. Of course, a complete remodelling of the kitchen can be expensive if it involves appliances (stove, refrigerator), replacing the cabinets and major plumbing upgrades.

But if the changes only involve some new wallpaper and paint, and perhaps new floor tiles, the cost can be reasonable. Even these small changes can make the room more comfortable, giving it a great atmosphere for food preparation and family gatherings.

However, before deciding to remodel a kitchen (or any room, for that matter) it is important to sit down and talk with family members and friends about what a kitchen should look like, what a kitchen should feel like, and perhaps most important, how a kitchen should work. Only then should you begin to plan, in detail, the changes that will be made.

For example, replacing kitchen cabinets can be a major project, but with the right information at the start, this renovation can go quite smoothly. The most elaborate, hand-made cabinets can cost thousands of dollars, so to keep the cost within the budget a homeowner should shop carefully, measure carefully and take any professional advice he or she can get when considering new kitchen designs.

Sometimes it may be enough to thoroughly clean the cabinets, inside and out. Refinishing the wood surfaces can be a great way to upgrade without great expense. Several good products exist that can restore some of the original beauty of natural wood. This task, along with some new paint or wallpaper may be enough to make the kitchen come alive again.

Some homeowners who are considering a kitchen remodelling project believe there is little that can be done in this room without great expense. Most professionals and experienced homeowners will tell you this is simply not true. Of course, one of the great expenses is labor. If you decide to have a professional remodelling contractor do the work, the cost can increase dramatically. But there are a number of ways to improve or change the appearance and efficiency of the kitchen without hiring a professional. Other changes may require some expert help, but even this can be limited through good planning. For example, installing a new floor in the kitchen, while not easy, can be made easier and less expensive with some of the new materials available. For example, homeowners have put hardwood floors in their kitchens in increasing numbers recently because companies now manufacture real wood tile squares that can be placed directly over the existing floor in many cases. A homeowner with a bit of patience and maybe one assistant can complete this change in a few days at a cost of less than $1 per tile in many cases.

Changing the look of kitchen walls is another way to remodel the room without great expense. Only in extreme cases (older homes, poorly maintained homes) will it be necessary to remove all the old wall material and replace it with something new. In most cases panelling, new wallpaper or a fresh coat of paint can make the room look and feel very different.

County Air is Cooler but the Water may Be Dirtier

By Andrew Caxton

Shower head water filters can be very handy in remote locations such as a vacation cabin.

If you have ever had the experience of owning or renting a country cabin, you know how much fun it is to be close to nature during the day with the air cooler than in the city, and then have a cozy spot to rest in at night. The one problem is that you really want a nice, refreshing shower after a day of hiking or nature viewing, and frequently the water in a country cabin is not the best to shower in. Since it is loaded with minerals and other things, when you shower in this kind of water, your scalp can get itchy with dandruff, your skin can get dry and your eyes can get irritated. You can eliminate these problems if you install a water filter on the shower head.

If you are out in the countryside, the sink that you get your drinking water from will most likely already have a filter on it, but the shower water is not considered as important as drinking water. By simply installing your own filter, you can have clean water for your showers that will not irritate your skin and eyes.

Most of the time we do not even think about these things, but out in the country, you may have water that is very heavily contaminated with sediment and minerals. Once you start to have a few of the skin problems we have discussed, you will either have to give up the pleasures of your country cabin, or get a shower filter.

Most of the time, water filtering systems are installed on the source of the water for drinking, cooking or making ice. Not too many people give a thought to the water that is used in the shower or even in the toilet. It is very simple and easy to put a shower head filter on your shower anywhere, that there is no excuse not to put one on your shower in the cabin. You don't need any special skills to do it.

On top of that, maintaining a shower filter couldn't be easier. All you have to do is make sure you change the filter when it is necessary. Most of them will last at least six and as long as nine months. This depends upon the amount of contaminants in the water. Obviously, the harder the filter has to work, the shorter it will last. One way filters need t be replace frequently, but there are filters that can be reversed, almost doubling their lives.

These shower heads cost so little, starting at $30, that there is no reason that you cannot enjoy clean, fresh shower water when you are away on vacation just as you do at home.

Under the Sink Water Coolers Are as Easy to Install as Air Cooler

By Andrew Caxton

The benefits of an under the sink water filter and how easy it is to install one.

Clean drinking water is important to all of us, and one of the most convenient ways to have it is a simple on the counter filter for your water. If you don't like the look of an on the counter water filter, or if you really don't have a lot of room on the counter, you can get the same benefit from an under the sink water filter. This system is directly connected to the plumbing that brings the water into the faucet, just like with an air cooler, so you will always have clean filtered water to drink or cook with. Just like the counter unit, it will only filter the water at that sink, so most people use it for the kitchen sink where the need for clean water is the greatest.

Clean water is really important to us today; the magazine "Health" has reported that seven million people in the U.S. per year become sick due to contaminated drinking water. An under the counter water filter is smart because it gives you all the benefits of clean drinking water, and is completely invisible. You don't have to have the tubes and canisters sitting out on the counter and an under counter system can process a lot more water than a counter top system can. If you have decided that it is important to the health of you and your family to remove the traces of impurities in your water supply such as nitrates, fluorides, lead and arsenic, you will definitely want to filter your water. And it is a lot easier and neater to do this with an under the counter water filter system.

You can hire a plumber to put in an under the counter system, but it is not really necessary, since they are fairly simple to install. The systems available today are complete integral kits that contain all the necessary fittings and hookups. They also include thorough, easy to follow directions for installation. A feed line is connected to your main water supply and you connect this line to the cold water tap. There is no need for an additional line to drain the system, keeping things very simple.

Of course, the under the counter system does not absolve you from the obligation to change the filter. Every water filtering system will have this requirement. The purpose of the water filtering system is to remove impurities from the water, and the impurities have to go somewhere. Where they go is the filter. Change the filter as often as is recommended, and you will keep the system clean and well functioning, and you will continue to have great tasting, healthy drinking water for your home.

Change Your Filters in Your Air Cooler as Well as Water Purifier

By Andrew Caxton

How important it is to keep filter on your water filtering system clean by changing it when necessary.

Whatever kind of water filter you may have (and there are many different kinds these days, from faucet mounted, counter top versions, or under the sink types), you have to be diligent about changing the replacement cartridge in the filter. You may have bought a water filter that came with an automatic supply of replacement cartridges, but if you didn't, it is really important that you go out and buy them. You can get them at the same stores you buy air cooler filters from. Buy more than just what you need, since it is a good idea to have replacements on hand so you can change the filter cartridge as soon as you have to. The whole idea of putting in a water filtering system was to have fresh, clean water at your fingertips, right? Well, if you don't change the cartridge filter, the system will no longer be able to do its job and you will no longer have nice clean water.

A water filtering systems works as follows: the water that passes through the system has deposits, minerals and other pollutants in it. As it passes through the filter, the filtering agent removes these deposits and fresh clean water comes out of your faucet. After a while, however, these deposits build up and the filter no longer can remove new deposits. It is time to change the filter cartridge. If you read the instructions that came with your filter, you will find out how often you have to change the filter cartridge and also the specific type you should get for your water filter system.

It is really a simple matter to change the water filter cartridge, so there is not excuse not to do it on time. Just shut off the water at the valve and unscrew or pull off the filter, depending upon the style. Put the new one on. Simple and fast, no? If you make a point of keeping a supply on hand, it will be really fast since you don't have to run out to the store to get a replacement.

Keeping the filter cartridge changed is paramount to keeping the system doing its job properly. If you value the clean, fresh water you have been drinking since you put in your water filtering system, you will want to make sure that you keep it that way by changing the filter cartridge when you are supposed to. If you don't you will have a system that you paid for and that is now doing absolutely nothing for your water supply.

Under the Sink Water Coolers Are as Easy to Install as Air Cooler

By Andrew Caxton

The advantages of under the sink water filter systems. How easy they are to install.

There are two main types of water filters that are installed under the sink. One is the activated carbon system and the other is the reverse osmosis system. Whichever system you choose, you will be assuring you and your family of clean, fresh, pure and healthy drinking water. So many of us today choose to go out and buy bottled drinking water because we are afraid of the contaminants in the water. This can get expensive, so an under the sink system is a much better idea.

The installation of an under the sink system is not very complicated; it is as easy as putting an air cooler in the window. The companies that offer these systems include and entire installation kit with all fittings as well as detailed instructions that make it very easy to install them.

The basic idea behind water filter systems of all types is to filter ordinary tap water through the filter to remove as many as the impurities as is possible. The filter that does this filtering has to be changed to keep up its job of filtering.

The first system we discussed was the activated carbon system. In this system, the filter is primarily a cartridge that has jargon in it that Will remove the impurities in the water. If you choose the right sized system for your home, it will remove dangerous particulates from your water, such as radon, chlorine and pesticides and other chemicals. These filters should be replaced every six months as a rule. This is not a great burden, and the replacement are very easy to find.

The second type of filtering system we discussed is the reverse osmosis system. It is more complicated than the carbon system, but the concept is the same. In the reverse osmosis system, the water passes through an initial filtering system before it is subject to the carbon filter. The first filter removes larger particles and then the water is forced through a membrane that removes even the smallest particles. The water then is stored in a tank, and the remaining impurities are filtered through carbon and these impurities are flushed completely out of the system.

There is a large variety in both of these types of systems, and you can find water filtering systems that cost as little as $50 as well as systems that cost hundreds of dollars. One of the best ways to find out the one for you is to talk to a general retailer who can recommend the best one for your needs.

The Best Water Filters and Air Coolers

By Andrew Caxton

You will enjoy the new freshness of your clothes if you install a washing machine water filtering system.

There are not only many types of water filters, there are many purposes for them. Most of the water filters that people are familiar with are for filtering impurities out of the water they drink. But you can also filter the water in your shower and even the water that goes to your washing machine. If you have a lot of minerals, sediment and other particulates in your water, you may want to filter the water you wash your clothes in to make sure that they will come out clean and white.

Most of these filters work to capture the sediment in the water before it goes into the tub of the washing machine where your clothes are going to go. This is done at a screen on a valve at the inlet to the washer. This allows the water to flow through, while taking out sediment. Since a washer uses a lot of water at a time for each wash, make sure you get the proper sized filter. Otherwise you will have to be changing hate filter constantly to make it work properly.

There are many brands of washing machine water filters, just as there are many brands of air coolers and they are manufactured both by water filter companies and washing machine companies. Whirlpool, Maytag, Kenmore, Frigidair, GE, make washers and excellent filters to use Whit them.

Companies that specialize in water filtering are also a good choice for washing machine filters, companies such as Rainsoft, Sprite Shower Filters, PUR, Omnipure, Aqua-Pure, American Plumber, Moen, Microline, Liquidate, Key tone, Incinerator, Hydro Tech, Holmes Air, Ever Pure, Gilligan and Brita. Even among this wide range of manufacturers, there is a wide range of types of filters for your washer. There are quick change filters, garden filters, ceramic filters and many speciality filters. You have to be careful to pick the right filter for your washer; not all brands of washers will supp port all brands of washing machine filters. Just to be sure, work with a company that will give you a warranty on their filter so that you can return it if anything goes wrong.

One of the most important elements in how well a filter of any kind will work is keeping the filter clean. This is a very small but necessary bit of maintenance that you have to keep up in order for the filter to work at its optimum.

Shut off the power to the washer to avoid any electrical shock, then find the water inlet valve. Visually check the filter for debris that may have collected on it. If there is a great deal of debris, you need to change the filter.

You will be very surprised at how nice your clothes will come out if you use a washing machine filter to keep the water that washes your clothes clean in the first place.

If I had a nickel for every time I've heard somebody say they have made their quota and they want to go home I could probably make a phone call. The truth is a matter is that people always need more things and the truth of the matter is that many times work is never done. People leave work going on and on for weeks and weeks because of the fact that they need to reach a certain level. This is no different with your floor. If you are trying to make your floor a great place to be and you won't rest until I happens then you're not going to get much sleep tonight are you?

Reaching the quota in your life in reaching the quota with your floor is a thing which is never done. No rest for the weary so strap on your preconceptions and let's get on with it because there is no rest for the weary when it comes to making your floor what it needs to be.

Finding Floors Which Are Yours

Finding the floor which is right for you is the first thing that many people need to do. People often don't realize that there are so many different types of flooring which they can have in their home. You could have wood floor, you could have carpeting, you could have tile, you could have bamboo strips, you can have cloth. You can have so many different things that is really sort of a joke; I know one woman who made her whole floor out of denim and other patchwork items including velvet.

The truth about trying to find the floor which is right for you is that you need to make sure that you go forward with a great deal of courage and don't forget about the children. It's the poor and the needy in the helpless which always get overlooked and this should not be an error of yours when you are trying to figure out which floor is right for you.

Top 5 Debt Elimination Tips to Become Debt Free

By Jonathan Lemereaux

Deep in the wallet there is going to be debt. The idea of debt is installed in children from the earliest of ages. They see television commercials promising that new car for a cheap monthly payment making the need for debt elimination real from the early years. They grow up in a home that requires a mortgage to purchase. Nearly everything around is charged on a card to a bank in order to live the lifestyle we see as comfortable. The growth of debt leads to the ever growing necessity of debt elimination and a debt free life.

Debt elimination is the art of taking a life full of debt and moving that life past the point of owing and into the point of owning. Debt elimination can mean less stress, an overall happier life and more money in your pocket. Here are the top 5 tips to debt elimination and becoming debt free.

Cash Rules - We are a society that thinks debt free means not owing the full balance on our credit cards. This is a distorted idea of debt free life. When you purchase something new, training yourself to only buy what you can pay for in cash today is the best debt free choice. Debt elimination starts by changing the ideas you have about money, not about the definition of debt free.

Cancel Those Cards - Debt elimination can not start until those credit cards are out of sight, out of mind and out of the wallet. A debt free lifestyle and debt elimination means never charging anything again. Yes, you heard that right, NEVER! A credit card is the worst choice for someone who wants to live life debt free and eliminate all debt. Charging fresh amounts of money will just revert you back to being full of debt and stop debt elimination.

Minimum Payments Will Not Work - The credit card you used to charge the world away, is the nemesis to your debt free life and debt elimination. Those minimum payments are all interest and in order to choose debt elimination, those need to be taken care of immediately. The paying off of a credit card will require a larger than minimum payment and a lot of willpower. Becoming debt free was never going to be easy, but debt elimination feels good in the end.

No More Monthly Payments - When trying to move from debt to debt free, you must forget about how much you can afford per month and stick with what you can afford right now. Debt free means taking those monthly payments and converting them to monthly savings. Debt elimination is getting rid of that debt.

Never File Bankruptcy - Bankruptcy will hurt more than help. There are slow fixes for debt that can make anyone debt free. It just takes time and determination to remain free from debt, to choose debt elimination and to live debt free.

Our lives are so very filled with the need to have more of everything right now that we have forgotten about the debt free nature of life. We expect to live debt free when we are young, but then fall into charged and owed debt, thus making debt elimination seem like it is too far away to grasp. Our debt free lives depend on living everyday with a total cost mindset and the heart to live with what we can afford right now, thus making debt elimination a new beginning.

Bringing Asia to Your Backyard

By Kent Higgins

With greater interest being shown in Asian culture and practices in recent years, oriental or 'Zen' style gardens have also shown an increase in popularity. Featuring design elements inspired by traditional Japanese gardens, oriental gardens typically consist of things such as water from a pond or small waterfall, pagodas and oriental garden lights.

These oriental garden lights are available as solar garden lights, which require no electricity, storing up the sun's energy during the day through a Nicam battery, and then releasing it at night through an LED connector which can hold up to a 15 hour charge. These solar lights are easily installed, cheap, and environmentally friendly.

A popular choice among oriental style solar lights is the pagoda solar garden light. Designed in the shape of a pagoda, which is a tiered structure with angled eaves, these lights offer a striking and stately design. The pagoda solar lights are attached to a pole inserted into the ground, and are most often used along pathways, to surround open gathering areas, or tucked in the corners of decks.

Another traditional oriental garden touch is the use of solar stones to provide gentle illumination to dark areas. These stones look not unlike real stones, but have small solar panels inserted into the middle of them. They require no form of installation or upkeep, they can simply be placed in any area that fits their aesthetic design and they're ready to work. These stones may come in particular shapes, the most common of which is the hexagon, a shape symbolic in Feng Shui philosophy.

Garden lamps are a perfect accent to a traditional styled garden, being made from granite or concrete, or a durable plastic mold made to look like granite. These lamps feature hollow interiors from which the light illuminates, the energy for which comes from the solar panel on their top, which charges throughout the day.

Finally, wall sconces add a unique look to any garden, and are especially suited to small garden areas enclosed by walls on at least one side. These sconces can be attached to the side of any wall or deck, providing gentle white or amber light over your garden. Solar wall sconces can be found in a plethora of styles and colors.

You won't be left wanting for great design choices when constructing an oriental garden centered around great led solar landscape lighting. These lights can be found in many gardening or craft related stores, or through the internet at similar dealers or through dealers specializing in Asian or Asian style products.

Install An Interior Or Exterior Door

By Vince Paxton

Those looking to change a room should consider putting up a new door. Not only will it help with any insulation problems, it will change the dcor.

First, choose the type of door that will be put up. There are three basic groups to choose from. There are entry doors, interior doors and combination storm/screen doors. By following five steps entry doors can be replaced with ease. Once you have this skill under your belt you will be able to put up interior doors with no problem.

When putting up any door the general premise is the same. The only real difference is whether or not it is an exterior or interior door. You begin by taking off the old door. Tuck a wedge under the outside corner and release the hinges. Once the door is off there are two options available. The first one is to hang the door from loose-pin hinges. Part of the hinge is hooked into the door and the other half is hooked into the doorframe. If you are working in an old house, the hinge might not be so cooperative due to years of paint build up. When this happens you should unscrew the hinges and take off the doorframe to get the door off.

Next you will take the hinge leaves off of the door. You can hang new ones or use the old ones. Buff the old ones with a sander and use a clear protective coating to cover it. New hinges should be the exact same size as the previous ones.

Shape the hinges they way that you would like and put the new hinge leave on the frame of the door. The screws must be long enough to go trough the stud-wall framing and the frame of the door.

After that you will need to trim the door. Take notes from the previous door if needed. If the new door is in line with the old one than trimming may not be necessary. However, if the old door is not a good example, measure the door opening and leave a 1/8 bottom clearance and 1/16 at the side and top. If there is carpet to take into account you need to have a bottom clearance that is 3/4 more than that. A fine tooth saw will be needed for the trimming.

Get the door ready for the hinges. New mortises need to be made. There will be routed or craved out depressions in which the hinges blades will be placed. This will keep the surface level. The old door can be a pattern to follow for this or you can use the new door. Put in the doorway and wedge it 1/8 away from the bottom. Put the hinge locations on the door.

After that put the door on the latch edge and take a pencil or knife and trace the line to the door edge from every hinge. The new hinge on of the door should be outlined with the hinge leaf template.

Use a wood chisel to leave marks on the hinge mortises. Level the cutes with the thickness of the leaf hinge. Three hinges is the usual standard for six foot tall doors.

Next you need apply some wood sealant to the door and put wood screws in the hinge leaves. Next hang the door.

Connect Those Pipes: Give Yourself Some Hot Water

By Ken Morris

Hooking up a hot water heater is one of the most common home repair jobs there is. However, if you don't do the obvious things first, problems can arise. If the homeowner who considers him or herself a do-it-yourself type rushes into this project without some prior knowledge, he or she could be in hot water (or without hot water). The best method for installing a new hot water heater is to become informed by reading directions and instructions first. Then, successful completion of the project is a matter of following basic steps in detail.

In fact, this project can be an easy one for just about any homeowner who takes a few minutes to learn about the task and then follows some simple steps. Because the water service to the house (at least to the water heater area) must be shut off, it is essential that the project be completed in a reasonable amount of time. Otherwise, the family may be without hot water until a professional can come in a finish the job. The stress and extra cost of this can be avoided if the homeowner takes great care during the installation.

After the water is shut off, the old water heater can be disconnected and removed. Be very careful, however, because there is usually some hot water left in the tank. This will make the unit heavier and a bit harder to handle. Disconnect the electricity or gas service with care as well. With a good pipe wrench or two, disconnect the pipes. These may also have hot water in them, so be careful with this process.

When disposing of the old water heater, make sure to understand the local and state regulations concerning disposal of appliances and water heaters. Some landfills are regulated to the extent that they cannot accept such items. This may be one of the more difficult steps in the entire project.

If possible, move the new water heater to the location with some assistance and with an appliance dolly or cart. Connect cold and hot water pipes to the same service lines as the old unit. Use extra caution when positioning the new heater so it is not damaged, and to ensure easy access to the natural gas line if necessary. Locate the release valve on the new heater so that the heater will properly release extra heat and pressure from the system. A visual inspection will usually indicate if this valve is in good condition. This is one of the most important features of the new unit.

Connect the new water heater to the power source and gas service last. Always refer to the manual and installation instructions, following each step exactly. Nothing as complicated as air compressors are required. While removing an old water heater and installing a new one is a critical task for a homeowner, it does not have to be difficult. If the homeowner follows instructions carefully, the hot water installation task should be relatively easy.

The Perfect Plan for Rebricking a House

By Jack Blacksmith

Rebricking a House can be a major renovation project. There are only a few reasons why there is any need to rebrick the whole house instead of doing a simple repair. If the brick quality overall is in bad shape or it started to affect the general structure of the home then rebricking is probably the only option. Costs to rebrick a home are going to include the labor and brick.

The costs of rebricking a home are variable. The cost will be determined by the type of brick used, the amount of extra labor besides just laying the brick, the size of the house and the amount of digging around the foundation that needs to be done. Rebricking may also involve damage to some areas of the home that will also need to be repaired. These are inevitable and unavoidable and a natural part of the rebricking process. Usually when the home is built the bricks will be laid first before any trim or exterior dcor is applied. When rebricking a home these additions must be removed and then put back on. Other things like arched areas are going to cost extra as well because they require specialize work that is generally not included in the basic brick laying cost. Also, as mentioned, digging around the foundation is necessary to lay the lower bricks on the home. This can be a tedious and expensive process.

The homeowner may be allowed to pitch in and help reduce the cost. In general the actual masonry work is best left up the professionals, but the crew will generally allow the homeowner to help in other ways. This may include prep work, clean up and general labor. The homeowner may be able to tear off trim as well. Much of this work can be done when the masonry crew is not working and that can help to speed up the process as well. By doing this extra work a homeowner can usually save a little money on the overall costs and time.

Rebricking a house is a big project. Any way to save money this expensive project can be a good thing. A homeowner should first understand what makes up the costs and then try to find ways they can reduce the cost through doing some work on their own. A little physical labor can really help in the end with bringing down the cost.

Enjoy the Profit from Flipping Houses

By Jack Blacksmith

Over the past few years the trend of buying to sell houses has risen in popularity. This process is otherwise known as flipping houses and basically houses are bought, upgraded and sold to make extra profit. It is done pretty quickly and whilst it depends upon the condition of the home that you purchase, the profits can really add up.

How to Benefit From Flipping House

Not just any home can be bought and renovated. Some are in a horrible state and it would cost more to renovate them which would decrease the profits that you will make. So this means that you need to do your research in order to choose the best house to purchase. You will ideally want a home that needs quite a bit of renovation, but nothing too extensive. What you are basically looking to do is improve the homes appearance to make it more appealing to potential buyers.

If you do it properly, you can purchase a local house at below market price because of the condition that it is in. The improvements will only be minor so they will be completed fairly quickly. Usually you can improve the homes value and do all improvements within a month. Flipping houses helps you to pay for the renovation and the mortgage and you still make a profit.

However, whilst many home improvements are cosmetic, that is not all that you will have to look into. Sometimes, even with an inspection beforehand, you can be presented with extra work than you anticipated. It could be that the electrics need doing or the design is not all that it first appeared to be. In these circumstances the amount of work involved can cost more than you originally thought that it would. It will also slow you down and so it is definitely a good idea to do as much research as possible before you purchase any property.

A good tip is to look into foreclosed houses. These types of houses are usually sold up to 60% less than the current market price. So you get an excellent deal and often the adjustments that are needed are minimal. You would make a really good profit and you would not need to work as hard for it either.

Eventually as you continue to make profits, the profits that you do make will pay for additional houses. So you will basically just keep on making more and more money. However it is not always as easy as it sounds; you have to know which properties are worth investing in and which ones will cause too much work. You need to be able to buy, improve and sell fairly quickly if you are to enjoy the most profits from flipping houses.

Overall buying to sell is definitely a good idea for those who are interested in real estate. It can make you a considerable profit just as long as you do the right amount of research.

Grinding Sometimes Needed on Many Materials

By Leroy Calstard

It is very important that you consider some things when buying a knife. Do you want to start a new project? Do you want to give a gift to someone who loves woodworking, or who is always involved in some type of DIY project? There are all types of knives for wood, metal, plastic and even for plumbing. Finding the right type of knife is going to be important to the final project and for the material you are working with.

It is very important that you take the process of purchasing a knife seriously. You will need to know exactly what it is that you are looking for, and then to find the product that fits your needs and desires.

When it comes to things like the jeweled metal knife, you will need to consider things like how breathtaking it really can be, but also the craftsmen work that when into the handle, the blade, and so on. You will find that it is very important that you consider the knife and the quality that it holds. You will find that more of it is purely cosmetic, however, the knife does end up looking great when finished.

Look for quality when you are shopping for a knife. Does it look sturdy? Does it look as if you can use it over and over without it bending? The knife you are searching for should also fit your hand well. Grasp the handle and feel it in your hand. Is it too small or too big?

For those who do not know this, the finished product of a jeweled metal knife is actually done from the inside out. You will find that with a stonewash you will be able to add some abrasions and make the knife look older or used. You will be able to achieve that antique look. You will find that there are some benefits to this progress because it can hide the look or appearance of a dull blade. You will notice that the more polished the more modern the knife will appear.

As for a vibed finish you will notice that it looks slightly worn and it also has fewer abrasions. This is so that you can get a stonewash finish, but it will look more modern than antique. Finding Good Deals on Renovating Your Bathroom

By Robert Carlton

The bathroom is the second most used room within the home and so it makes sense that you want it to look its best. You need to feel relaxed within the bathroom and if it is looking old then it could bring down the atmosphere of the whole room.

Now updating your bathroom to look elegant and beautiful can cost quite a lot of money. That is why many homeowners consider doing their bathroom renovations themselves. It is certainly a good idea for those who are on a tight budget as it can really help to save potentially a lot of money on hiring professionals. Here you will find some easy tips to follow if you are thinking of decorating your bathroom yourself.

The Importance of Accessories

When you are starting out with your bathroom renovations, it is important to consider the accessories that you will be putting into the room. Accessories are everything in a room such as the bathroom and so they are not something that you should forget about. Perhaps you could do with a new rug for example? Or perhaps you need to install a new cabinet and storage? You can find really good deals on bathroom accessories if you look around and they are perhaps one of the cheapest parts of a bathroom renovation project.

Another thing which is recommended to change the feel of the bathroom is changing the color scheme a little. Just changing the color of a few things in the room can make a big difference. For example, you could just change the color of the toilet seat or the toilet roll holder and that would make an instant difference to the atmosphere of the room. Or if you want to make a bigger change then why not opt to change the tiles? That can be a slightly trickier job but it really can make all the difference.

Finally updating the paint job is another easy task to do yourself. Sometimes all that is needed to improve the look of any room is a fresh coat of paint. So by painting the bathroom you should find that it gives it a whole new look while adding light without installing replacement vinyl windows.

Overall when it comes to bathroom renovations it really doesn't have to be complicated. As long as you focus more upon the small things within the room then you should be ok. It is possible the easiest room within the home to decorate yourself and you can find bathroom accessories practically everywhere that you go. If you do get stuck for ideas then why not look on the internet for inspiration or in your local hardware store? You can also find ideas in home improvement magazines. So if you have not yet considered making changes yourself then why not consider it today?

The Top Ten Things To Consider Before Selling And Rent Back

By Bernard Higgingson

1) How much will you receive? Companies all offer different amounts, from as low as 70% to as high as 100%. Companies which offer 100% usually give you 70% upon completion of the sale and 30% at the end of the tenancy, however the average offer tends to be 85%

2) Selling your house can often be far from a relaxing process. To make it as peaceful as possible it's important know who the sell and rent back company you are dealing with. Are they reputable? Ethical? In good financial standing and will still be around at the end of your tenancy period? All these questions are very important and make sure you do plenty of research on a sell and rent back company before you enter into any agreement with them. If you can get an independent personal recommendation from someone who has gone through process, but as sell and rent back is still an emerging sector of the property this may be tricky. Searching internet forums and message boards may also reveal some more information on the range of companies entering the sector.

3) Are you guaranteed long-term rental? What happens when you become a tenant? Look for companies which offer a long-term contract, this will give you peace of mind that you cannot be evicted after a short period. When you become a tenant you will generally have to pay for council tax and the normal gas, electric bills as any tenant would.

4) Will you have to pay valuation costs and legal fees? Many companies will pay the valuation costs and legal fees for you. Most will do this to make the offer seem more attractive but only buy the property for a lower percentage. Although there are exceptions as some companies will pay for the costs and fees whilst offering a high or full percentage.

5) Will your details be kept private/confidential? All of the sell and rent back companies should keep your details private and confidential although ensuring the company is reputable beforehand should eliminate any risk of breach of confidentiality. Unless expressed otherwise, the only people who will know about what happened will be you, the company you dealt with and the solicitor handling the case, not even a "sold" sign should appear outside your house.

6) Will the rent I pay stay at pre-agreed levels? Some sell and rent back companies will offer a fixed rate for the first few years, after then the monthly rental payments may increase. Others will not guarantee a fixed rate and leave you open to increased payments later on in your tenancy try to avoid these. Often the best deal will be the sell and rent back firm who will offer you 10 years (or whatever the length of tenancy agreed) at a single fixed rate which is signed into the contract.

7) Will the valuation be independently calculated? It is always advisable to go with a sell and rent back company that offers an independent valuation, especially by a member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

8) How long is the process likely to take? How quickly could you receive your money? Companies can offer a 24 hour service if that is what's required and as long as the legal paperwork is fine, although most will take 3-4 week to get everything sorted. Your money is usually released after the transaction has been completed.

9) Who now owns and maintains the property? After the transaction has completed, the landlord will generally be the company who bought the property from you and they are responsible for taking care of any maintenance or emergency callouts that may happen. This is why it is essential to ensure the landlord is reputable or are using an experienced and reliable property management company to quickly address any issues you have. The "moveable furniture" (chair's, tables etc) is typically still owned by you, unless you negotiate a deal with the company to sell them the furniture as well.

10) Buying Back? Some companies will offer a deal where you can choose to buy your house back off them at the end of the rent period. This is very useful for those who are having a difficult time financially but expect things to improve in two years or more when they can afford mortgage payments again.

Having difficulty choosing ducted and ductless range hoods?

By Jonathan Sims

As long as there is a stove in a kitchen, there is a very high chance that you will find a range hood as well. Range hoods are essential in ensuring that a kitchen is well ventilated, as there can be a lot of smoke and fumes that are emitted during the course of cooking. Also, these fumes and odors can also leak into the rest of the house or building, which is normally prevented by having a range hood.

It is because of these reasons, that range hoods are an extremely vital part of a well operating kitchen. Apart from providing comfort to anyone who might be cooking in the kitchen, it also keeps people safe from any unnecessary accidents that might a direct result of lingering fumes in the kitchen.

In the market today, there is an extremely wide variety of range hoods, all of which are built to cater to different needs, specifications and requirements. Some range hoods are made of special non-stick materials, which make relatively easy to clean, whereas others are designed to be stored away when not in use. In addition, you will also be able to find different range hoods that have been designed to suit specific designs and layouts of kitchen, making it relatively easy to find a range hood that will suit your needs.

Once you begin to look around for a range hood that will fit in your kitchen, it will come to your discovery that there are two different types of range hoods. Most range hoods are separated into two main categories: ducted range hoods, and ductless range hoods. It is imperative that you know the difference between these two, as it will help you make a well informed decision, on the type of range hood to buy or install.

Ducted hoods always need a ventilation duct in order to direct the unwanted fumes away from the kitchen, and into an open environment like the garden, or the backyard. Because it uses a duct, the fumes are very well dissipated. But if you do not have the space to install the ventilation duct, a ducted range hood will be very hard to install.

Ductless range hoods, on the other hand, do not require any ventilation shaft or duct, which is why it is popular among domestic kitchen environments. The only necessary requirement would be a power point that will power the ventilation fans in the range hood. However, with a ductless range hood, the unwanted fumes are simply isolated towards an area that is further away from the stove.

Despite the ducted range hood having a much higher level of effectiveness, you will find that most common domestic kitchens use a ductless range hood. This is simply because there is not enough space in domestic kitchens, for the luxury of being able to install a ventilation duct for the ducted range hood.

Now that you have understood the key differences between a ducted and a ductless range hood, you should weigh the differences and consider your own personal requirements. After which, you should be able to make a good decision regarding your range hood.

Get your best investment in a Deck or Patio part 1

By craig osborne

Creating a deck or patio is a great way to enjoy the beautiful outdoors and enhance the value of your home.

These are my best upfront, Practical Suggestions:

Here are seven suggestions to guarantee that your investment into a deck or a patio is done properly:

1. Study your local real estate market to be sure you're making improvements that home buyers want and will pay for.

2. A reserve of 10 to 20 percent of your budget should cover unexpected costs or changes... this is developing a practical budget (this makes sure you don't hit unexpected costs later on!)

3. it is very important to make sure you have good references on the professional that you hire. because you only want to work with a competent professional who has the time, the tools and experience to handle the complex installation problems that might arise with Decks and patios (even though they're fairly straightforward projects)

4. Develop a working timeline that allows plenty of leeway to finish the project. In most municipalities, you need a building permit before you begin. Be sure to check building codes to learn about specific standards, restrictions and regulations.

5. When choosing the shape, style and materials, keep in mind the architectural style of your home. Try to keep your selection limited to no more than two building materials. This actually gives you more flexibility in the construction process and in the final finishing stage.

6. Even a single material will give you a very effective look if combined with the appropriate landscaping and outdoor furniture. Use of too many different materials can lead to the area being too complex and result in a poorly executed construction.

7. Decks and patios are practical and valuable additions, as they typically recoup most of their original construction cost and they have become popular spaces for entertaining, barbecuing, relaxing and for children's play.

Those are some upfront, practical suggestions you can use no matter what type of deck or patio (or even home improvement project) you want to build.

Miter Saw Stand Saves Backs

By Robert Carlton

You will want to have a miter saw when you are working with things like baseboards and trim work. They will not only help you cut on a straight angle, but it will also help you to cut on a horizontal angel too. Most will even do beveled edges. You will find that the miter saw quality that you purchase will depend on your budget. You will find that there are many additional features with the higher priced saws. Sliding saws will allow you to more the blade forward so that you can cut the larger pieces.

With compound miter saws you will be able to get the same things like a straight cut, horizontal angle, but they also have tilt motors. Meaning, they can cut bevels. Most of the typical miter saws that you will see on the market do not have the title and are unable to cut the bevels in the wood. You will find that the miter saw will sit on a table while the saw blade spins and is push down through the wood. These types of saws are very durable. Some are light weight and all are portable. You will find that this is because they need to be carried from job to job.

Dual power compound saws may even be known as double bevel saws. This is because they can cut straight and horizontally, but they are able to be tilted in either direction. This is why they are better for beveled edges. You will find that this type of equipment can be very expensive, but it is way better than the typical compound saw.

Sliding compound saws are great, but they work in a way that the compound saw works. There is just one difference that makes the sliding compound saw a little better. That is they can be pulled forward as the wood is cut and you will be able to cut larger pieces of wood because of that added feature.

Out of all the compound saws, it is the dual compound sliding saw that is among the best. These can be used for the typical cuts, but they are able to be tilted in either direction. They also are able to more forward as the wood is cut. They can be moved from site to site with ease and it can give you a professional look for work or home projects.

There are other things like radial arm and miter saws that you can use for work or play. You will find that they can do a variety of cutes, even crosscutting. You will want to keep in mind that some of these power tools can be very expensive, but you have to decide what it is that you need to get the job down, and what features you can afford to invest in.

Tips for Surviving Credit Card Debt

By Landon McGehee

Debt from undisciplined and irresponsible credit card use is a big problem across the world as the economic climate makes consumer come face-to-face with their debt. For some their debt is not from frivolous spending but a medical emergency or some unforeseen event, but most people with credit card debt find themselves dealing with the stress and burden of debt because of unwise spending or use of their credit cards.

There are many ways to take on the task of paying of credit card balances. For example, paying highest interest first or paying the lowest balance owed regardless of the interest rate. Whatever method used it takes extreme focus, dedication, restraint and discipline to pay it off and pass up the check out counter.

Paying off debt of any kind is one step in the process, but what happens once all your debts are marked paid-in-full! Does your spending life change?

Life After Debt

The road into debt is usually littered with a variety of purchases that ever so slowly begin to multiply and poison a consumer's life. These consumers are confused. They confuse fun and pleasure thinking it will make them happy.

No everyone who starts the journey to bury their debt wins and is successful. The path to debt was slow and so will the journey out of the grip of debt. Some make it and celebrate with a buying spree instead of learning debt lifestyle lessons.

The goal of paying off debt should be one step but the next should be of greater or equal importance, which is to remain debt-free. The payoff is a less-stress life. You'll gain a new perspective on buying needs and not financing wants.

The "rules" you need to follow are so basic but it is simple rules far too many consumers ignore and bury their head in the sand. Here's a quick run down to get those credit cards paid down and off.

Consolidate

Take all those multiple cards and consolidate them into a balance transfer creditcard if you are facing high balances and the process will take some time. Move the open credit card balances over to a new low interest balance credit card to consolidate the debt and give yourself one focused bill.

Do Not Overspend

A sale on something you cannot afford is no deal. Stay out of the stores if the temptation is too great.

Stay well below your credit limit. The target is 50%. Whatever your credit limit try to get below 50% of that total.

Pay bills on time and pay extra. It is best to stop charging all together but if you must charge pay off all charges made during the month and then pay the minimum plus more. Remember this takes focus.

No more than 2 cards. That means only 2 accounts. Close all the other accounts.

Start tracking your spending. Write down each expenditure to see where you are spending extra money - everyone does. Stop the extra spending and apply the extra money to the credit card balance. This is above the minimum.

Those are just some very basic items to get started. Look at creating a spending plan as you start seeing where your money is being spent. Attack the debt on those credit cards.

Installing Garage Storing Shelves

By Clinton Maxwell

Another thing which you need to think about when choosing shelving systems or a workbench for your garage, in particular using prefabricated shelves. You should be careful when choosing shelves which are designed to handle heavy loads. Heavy duty shelves may need to be fixed back against the wall in order to stop it tipping over and crushing anyone.Garages are the perfect place to store all of your junk which you can't find space for in your home. Everything from sporting equipment, to your treasured tools and even your machines. It was originally used to look after your car however these days have long since gone! If your garage is like mine and is only used to store food then you might need to organize it so you can reclaim your garage.

Garage shelves can normally be built in two different forms. Ones that are already made, or ones that are built on site. Site built shelves are much cheaper and more flexible. You will be able to find all of these things at your local home hardware store, or even lumber yard.

One of the most basic solutions is just a simple shelving system constructed out of plywood and held on strong brackets. You can strengthen the shelf by using braces at the studs.

Another type of shelving unit for your garage may be ones that stand on the floor. The most common and typical type of shelf is between 19 and 25 inches deep. It is normally constructed out of 2x4 wood and is arranged by 25 inches. These sizes can be adjusted in order to accommodate different sizes of items and can also be fitted to your existing garage workbench.

In order to store small items then you will need to keep small spaces between the studs. Attaching 1x2 strips of wood horizontally can make these shelving units much more functional for your purposes. This will prevent smaller units from slipping between the studs and falling off the shelf. Small shelves are a fantastic way to organize all of the small items in your garage including your screws and nails.

Another very important thing which you should consider when using prefabricated shelving is the possibility of adjusting the shelving system. By using prefabricated shelves which are adjustable you can set the shelves in at least two separate positions. This will enable a much more flexible and useable shelving system to help you to organize your garage. The pins should be able to be moved in order to move the shelves. You do need to make sure that these pins and shelves are heavy duty so that they will last for a long time. It is important you buy heavy duty shelving so that it doesn't accidentally fall apart when you throw something onto the shelf!

Another thing which you need to think about when choosing shelving systems for your garage, in particular using prefabricated shelves. You should be careful when choosing shelves which are designed to handle heavy loads. Heavy duty shelves may need to be fixed back against the wall in order to stop it tipping over and crushing anyone.

Bamboo Flooring is a Valuable Alternative to Hardwood

By Jack Blacksmith

Bamboo flooring is a very beautiful alternative to using hardwood flooring. Bamboo floors are very popular at the moment because they are so attractive, using bamboo is also an environmentally friendly material. There are a number of popular manufacturers such as Armstrong, Columbia and Mohawk flooring which produce these types of flooring.

Construction of Bamboo Flooring

Bamboo is a very strong material, it is much stronger than many other cheap flooring products. Bamboo is extremely durable which makes it perfect for wooden flooring. It is much stronger and durable than linoleum. Its also much easier to cut than agranite countertop.

Bamboo flooring is available in two different forms, either solid bamboo floors or engineered floors. Engineered bamboo floors use bamboo with another type of wood. Most engineered floors have a plywood base with a top layer made out of bamboo. Bamboo can be stained with urethane which is similar to other hardwood stains. I installed bamboo flooring throughout my home last year. The look of it with the granite countertop in the kitchen is amazing.

Bamboo floors are installed in the same way as other hardwood floors. These are normally nailed down to prevent them from moving. There are newer products which are simply clicked together, these do not need any glue or nails to fix the panels down.

Before installing the floor it is important to make sure that the ground and subfloor are completely level. If it's not level then you can level it out using asphalt shingles. You must ensure that the subfloor is dry, moistness can damage your bamboo floor.

Environmentally Friendly

Many people are starting to be worried about the world's health and the depletion of our natural resources. Trees can take a very long time to grow, especially some of the more expensive products such as oak or walnut. There just aren't enough of these trees being replanted to keep up with demand. People are trying to find alternative ways to protect the trees.

Bamboo is extremely fast growing, the plants only take five years before they are fully grown. Even after harvesting the bamboo new shoots will start to grow very quickly. The bamboo does not need to be replanted as long as care is taken when harvesting.

Caring for Bamboo Flooring

You need to make sure you remove all dirt and dust from your bamboo floor by using a mop or a broom. A great tip is to use a solution made from four parts water and one part vinegar. Soak a sponge or a cloth in this liquid and wipe it over the floor. As soon as you've finished dry the floor immediately using a towel. You should be careful not to wet the floor too much.

If you spill anything then make sure you use a damp cloth. Then dry the area using a towel straight away. If your floor does get dull then you can use a buff sander to improve the shine on the floor. By looking after your floor there is no reason why your floor can't last for many years to come.

Naturally Say Goodbye to Garden Pests

By Keith Markensen

It's an unavoidable fact that if left untended, for every flower and plant that adorns our gardens, a greater number of pests will also take root. The good news is that removing these scoundrels from infesting your vegetation does not need to rely on chemicals, nor should it. For each individual species of pest that shows up in your garden abode, there is a natural solution that is cheaper and most importantly, safer to use than pesticides.

Shockingly, North Americans use upwards of 130 million pounds of pesticide each year, both in their gardens and in their homes. This dwarfs the amount used by farmers by almost three times, and accounts for a high percentage of wildlife pest poisonings and contamination of surface water from pesticide use.

Cutting back on this problem requires educating gardeners and homeowners everywhere. Taking the initiative by spreading the word yourself can only help, and the best way to do that is to lead by example, and keep your own home pesticide free.

The following tips will help you keep your garden healthy and pest free without resorting to harmful pesticide use.

The most common problem gardeners will face is insect damage to their plants. With proper cultivation and gardening methods, this problem can be drastically reduced before having to resort to other methods. This means having well-prepared soil, adjusting the pH balance as needed, good drainage and air circulation.

As your garden continues to grow and take shape, remove and dispose immediately of any struggling plants. Be sure to keep your compost area for storing your weeds, discarded plants and compost well away from your main gardening area, as the compost heap will be sure to attract pests.

Keep your garden beds well mulched and top-dressed with compost to ensure healthy plant development. Ensure you're using clean mulch, bought from a reputable dealer or cultivated yourself.

Be sure to keep your garden area clear of debris and things that will attract insects. If you have fruit trees near your garden, be sure to dispose of any fallen fruit immediately. Spoiled pears or apples will attract all many of pests.

Seaweed fertilizer sprays are useful for strengthening soil and promoting plant growth. They contain helpful minerals and trace elements like iron, calcium, sulphur and magnesium.

Mix up your garden beds with a variety of plant types interspersed throughout. This makes it difficult for plant specific pests to propagate and spread throughout your garden bed.

If you've used your gardening implements on infected plants, be sure to sterilize them before using them on healthy plants.

Finally, you can call on the power of nature itself to help you in your fight using a natural product like neem oil. By attracting or purchasing insects which feast upon the particular pests bothering your plants, you can remove them in one fell swoop of natural selection. Praying Mantises, Hover Flies, Ladybugs, Chalcids, Brachonids, and if they don't frighten you, Wasps, are all insects which will help you battle common varieties of garden pests.

Having a healthy and beautiful garden should not be your number one priority, the health and safety of family should be. Thankfully it is not a choice of one or the other. By using any or all of the above tips, you can keep your garden looking great, and have no fear of your children playing near your plants. It's truly the best of both worlds.

These groovy drapes make a great decoration in any room or area of your home and come in a wide range of different designs to enable you to create the perfect look for you.

Where Do I Use the Beaded Curtains?

With your windows, there are many different ways that you can use these beaded curtains. You can choose an entire curtain that is made of colorful strands of beads that hang the entire length of the window or you can use the curtains of bead strings to divide an area of the room from the rest of the room. You will enjoy using these beaded curtains to define an area, but without closing off the area from the rest of the home.

Mosaics are very popular in beaded curtains. These curtains are available in styles like a tapestry with great intricate detail or they are simpler with a more sedate design. Even the more natural look can be achieved with beaded curtains by finding ones with wooden beads.

If you have an open closet or have closet doors that open up into a small room, you may want to consider using beaded curtains to block off this area. They are easy to install and will help to define your closet without taking up too much space.

Going Crazy With Beads

Beaded curtains do not mean that you have to have a complete curtain made of beads. There are other ways that you can use the beauty of beads on your curtains. From sewing them randomly onto existing curtains to add just a little visual interest to creating patterns of sparkle on your curtains, you will find that beads can give old and plain curtains new life.

Edging your drapes, curtains, or sheers with beads can give them a more customized look. Beads can add just the right touch of style and beauty to curtains all over your home.

A beaded fringe added along the hem of a formal drape can help to make it even more elegant and formal looking. This looks works great for a formal living room. To add even more cohesion, you can add the same beaded fringe to pillows thrown around the room.

If you are not a sewer, then you will be happy to know that you can purchase curtains that are ready made and add beading without having to pull out the needle and thread. Hot glue can be used to add beading to curtains, but keep in mind that sewing will be much more durable than a craft glue or hot glue.

Adding beads is a great way to make an old and tired curtain look newer and more stylish. This also gives a room a more customized feel. By using either full beaded curtains or adding beads to existing curtains, you will find that they work great for windows, closets, and for room dividers. Hanging them from a curved curtain rod can make them stand out even more.

Mortgage Crisis and Buying a Home

By Brandan Hadlock, with Direct Mortgage Home Loans

While there are multiple reasons for the current mortgage crisis, part of the responsibility lies with borrowers who bought homes and acquired mortgage financing they couldn't really afford. The result has been many people hurting themselves, and in a classic ripple effect, harming the entire global economy.

The good news is that current homebuyers have the ability to strengthen our long-term economy and protect themselves by following sound financial principles. Foremost among these is living within one's means. This pertains to items small and big, from the food a person purchases to the home a couple buys.

Heeding the advice listed below can assist you in living withing your means, having greater peace of mind, avoiding foreclosure, and creating greater stability in the economy.

1. Save for a large down payment. It's still smart to follow the traditional guideline of a 20% down payment even though loans are available with down payments as low as 3%. Paying more for your home upfront lowers the amount of debt you'll carry. It can also mean a smaller monthly payment, and correspondingly, less financial strain and stress. While saving for a down payment to buy a home means you may have to wait a year or two, it can bring great rewards.

3. Save enough reserves. Mortgage payments are major expenses and it is important to have enough in savings to cover your payments should you become unemployed or have unexpected emergencies. As a matter of fact, most loans require you to have a certain amount of savings for this very purpose.
